Memphis, TN – I stole the title from a local news stations site (as seen above), but I added the chainsaw part because it made a standard, asinine headline sound cooler. Anyway, we got a bunch of dead people in a home. Memphis firefighters responded to a 911 call at a home at 722 Lester at 6:11 p.m. Monday. Nine people, adults and children, were found in one room in the house. Six of those nine people are dead. Four of the adults were dead from gunshot wounds, while two children were found stabbed to death.

Three other children, a 7-year-old boy, a 10-month-old girl and a 4-year-old,were transported to Le Bonheur Children’s Medical Center suffering from stab wounds. Neighbors identified the person living at the home as Cecil Dotson, but it has not been confirmed she among the dead. Neighbors also reported hearing gunshots around 8:30 p.m. on SundaySunday reviewsSunday reviews.

Neighbors describe a quiet neighborhood and a family that kept to themselves. But Wayne Bolden, who lived across the street from where the shooting happened, told The Associated Press that the male occupant of the house periodically fired shots in his yard.

He’d shoot on the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve,” Bolden said. “He’d have company over and I’d hear the shots.

Anyone’s guess as to what happened at this point, but it sure sounds like someone ran out of bullets.

Pretty sad. I had heard patchy parts of this news report this morning. I had not been able to find the story to share. Imp to the rescue.

How many people lived in one house – since 4 adults are dead and two poor children? And the “male occupant” – was that 10 people in one house?

You got me, when I left last night they still hadn’t named the cause of death and I thought wow chainsaw?

Could have happened on Saturday night – those poor survivors!

“Scott did not release the names of the victims. He said there was no sign of forced entry into the home, and evidence at the scene indicated that the killer or killers left the house.

Detectives were trying to determine the day of the killings, which could have occurred as early as Saturday, Scott said.

He said police had not developed a suspect and need people to come forward with information.

A neighbor told CNN Tuesday that he heard gunshots coming from the house Saturday night.

“I heard about six or seven shots,” said Wayne Bolden, a landscaper who said he lives across the street from the home where the killings occurred. “I did not call the police because you always hear shooting in this neighborhood. Now I wish I would have called.”

He said he did not see any movement at the home the next day. The two cars, a van and a passenger car, never moved.

Monday, he saw many police cars at the home and heard about the killings, he said.

Bolden said a family that included a man, a woman and five or six children moved into the home about five months ago.

“I did not know him by name,” Bolden said of the man. “But the kids were always out playing, and he would barbecue outside on his front porch.”"

People who shoot guns on holidays are not the best of neighbors. They may stay on their balcony and barbeque, but the bullets come down somewhere. Maybe someday they will shoot a little more levelly and the bullets will come at you. Something to check on when buying a home — “Any holiday shooting in the air around here?”

I agree. People who fire their guns in their house at all need to have their heads examined…..and be arrested. I’ve never heard of a place where it is legal to discharge a gun inside the city limits. Do such places exist? I live in one of the most rural places I’ve ever seen, and that law applies here. If you are inside the city limits, discharging a firearm (unless protecting life or property) is illegal. That’s why there are gun clubs and firing ranges. Idiots who fire their guns where others (neighbors) might be within range should be jailed. Unfortunately, I think this is one of those laws similar to the ban on fireworks that some states and communities have: It is largely ignored until someone gets hurt or killed.

And it gives the law abiding gun owners a bad name as well.

lol, they go outside Angel. But then they shoot straight up in the air, well that’s not accurate, if they shot straight up the bullet would come straight back. But when you shoot slightly off of exactly up with something like a bullet that goes way way up there, it could come down several blocks or miles from where it was fired. We saw this alot when we lived in Chicago, lots of people been wounded/killed by bullets falling back to earth in the city.

It’s sort of odd the adults were shot but the children were stabbed… I think that’s definitely got to say something about the killer, but I’m not a professional, so I’m not sure what–Besides that he/she is a sicko.

As a resident of Memphis, I’ve got to say the crime is unerving. However, they may now have a suspect in this case. The news just released that the homeowner’s brother had in the past threatened to harm him and his family. He was recently released from jail for 2nd degree murder. So if thats not a coincidence I don’t know what is. Also here in the lovely south, people do tend to get a little tipsy and shoot guns off on holidays. That doesn’t make them good or bad neighbors. “Anyone’s guess as to what happened at this point, but it sure sounds like someone ran out of bullets.” This statement by the way seems VERY inconsiderate. leave out the puns when speaking about such a tragedy please.

lol, they go outside Angel. But then they shoot straight up in the air,

I should have been more specific. Edit that to read: People who fire their guns in a non approved location, or in an unsafe manner (read: anywhere near people not engaged in the same activity in a designated firearms location), need to have their heads examined….and be arrested. Etc., etc., etc. That’s what I meant to convey, but I guess I did a poor job of it. ;-)

…Also here in the lovely south, people do tend to get a little tipsy and shoot guns off on holidays. That doesn’t make them good or bad neighbors ….

Yes, it does. Those bullets fall somewhere. And drunks shooting guns may well forget which way is up or they may not stick to shooting at the stars. Look in the past articles in this site to find a “not good or bad neighbor” who shot a kid to celebrate the new year. The boy was hiding behind a couch when Tipsy Prankster decided to shoot the couch — only one instance of a person who has died because of celebratory gun stupidity.

And this is not a slam at the South. Bad neighbors do it in many areas of the country.

the first one cortez and the 3rd fernendez – shooting guns in the light of the new year.

the homeowner’s brother had in the past threatened to harm him and his family. He was recently released from jail for 2nd degree murder.

neighbor claims 2 adults 5 kids lived there

my math 3 (2 dead) other adults not residents
only speculating they just might of been entertaining the brother’s ex wife and her date or new hubby … jealousy most likely a motive – knifed the kids to control them. while waving the gun around while giving a lecture sounds reasonable.

Cecil Dotson is a baaaad man and what happened in that house was all his fault, in my opinion, of course.

I agree with you Morbid. It is going to be interesting to see why the person arrested in this case killed these people. I do wished that person would have left the children alone.

Records also show that Jessie Dotson pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in 1994 and spent 14 years in prison. He was released from prison in January.

    Wtf was he out?

He killed everyone because he was getting rid of all the witnesses. Yeah, this guy should have gotten the electric chair before. Then he’d be dead and would never have been released to kill these people. And we would have been saved the bill for 14 years of feeding and maintaining him.

Jessie L. Dotson, 33, was arrested for fatally shooting his brother during an argument and then killing five witnesses, including two of his brother’s children

What a POS, he was some of the kids Uncle.

How the FUCK can you shoot (or stab) children for no other reason than the fact that they happened to be there? How? How? I just don’t get it!!! Eliminating witnesses? I call BULLSHIT! Unless he was as stupid as he is mean (which may be the case) how could he convince himself that getting rid of the kids was going to help conceal his involvement? A convicted felon, already done time for murder, was known to have problems with his brother (including a recent and ongoing argument), and had been seen threatening his bro…… What part of that set of circumstances did he believe that the murder of innocent children would assist him in hiding? What a waste of human genetic material…..
