YORBA LINDA, California - Two minutes after someone called 911 to report gunfire, 14-year-old, Ian Mercado called 911 and reported that his father had shot him and his brother at their condo complex in Yorba Linda, a bedroom community across the street from the Richard Nixon Library. When police responded to the residence, they found the mother, Maricel Cho, 39, on the doorstep, dead from gunshot wounds. Inside the home, they found the bodies of Nicole Cho, 9 and Kathleen Cho, 8 in a bedroom. They had been asleep in their beds when they were shot. The body of Christopher Cho, 5, was discovered in another bedroom. Also in this bedroom the body of Orland Cho, 41, was found…a shotgun beneath him. Authorities have not figured out a motive but believe the father was the gunman.

The surviving 14-year-old is in stable condition and is Marciel Cho’s son from a previous relationship. He was shot in the lower torso and is expected to survive. Police will not be able to interview him until Monday. The teen did give the police a statement at the scene, but it is being reported that it appeared he was unaware that his mother and siblings had also been shot.

I am sure there are some Myspace stuff out there for the teen, but who knows. No pictures available yet, so I’ll update as I get them.

All this could have been avoided if the dad had done it right. He should have STARTED with himself……

Maybe the dad had just seen or read “The Amityville Horror”….

You got it. Maybe we need to write up a little instruction book for this type of killer. They aren’t too bright, so if we say, “Step One: Put gun to YOUR head and pull trigger,” we may be able to fool them!

This killing people in their beds is giving me insomnia. Coward, to shoot people while asleep. Of course, at least the victims don’t know what happened, so are spared the terror.

Familicide — why do these dudes (usually) think they have the right to make their families die with them? It seems as if they have no idea that their family is made of up people, not extensions of themselves.

What in the hell is this guy’s name? Orland? Orlando? I am seeing both reported. :)

From an interview of Orland’s cousin:

“This is not the person I know,” Jun Cho, 41, said in a telephone interview from Hawthorne. “He was a hard-working person and a good family man, he was never appreciated.”

He said Orland, who grew up in Manila, was Valedictorian at Morningside High School in Inglewood and then joined the Navy. Orland Cho worked day and night shifts at LAX in the cargo department as a supervisor before selling cell phones for AT& T and getting in to life insurance sales, Jun Cho said.

But no matter how much he worked, Jun Cho said, Orland Cho felt it was never enough to please his wife.

“He loved his kids,” Jun Cho said. “They were the most precious thing that ever happened to him. Every time we got together, he talked about them and he would always get them little gifts.”

Too bad he took their gift of life away…… :(

Thank God he didn’t hate them. No telling what he may do.

Felt unappreciated? Then he should have gotten a divorce. I’m sick of killers trying to blame the victim for “driving them to it.” He clearly appreciated everything that his wife did to be a marital partner and mother to his children…appreciated her so much that he killed them all.

If you’re upset because you don’t feel like a big man, maybe, umm…it’s because you’re not a man at all. If that’s the issue, kill the person in the mirror, not your family.
