Tracey Hermann & James Sargent Suck At Parenting

February 21, 2008 at 5:39 pm by

UPDATE 6/18/08 – The prosecution has decided not to seek the death penalty in this case, citing mental health concerns and the parents each blaming the other for baby Benjamin’s death.  That said, I’m hopeful that life in prison will include a few days in a restraint chair for this pair of heinous babykillers.

Tracy Hermann, Dreamin Demon Benjamin Alen Sargent at 2 days - Dreamin DemonJames Sargent, Dreamin Demon

Peoria, IL – Few parents deserve a good old fashioned smiting like Tracey Hermann and James Sargent. Hermann, 21, and Sargent, 23, are accused of killing their five month old son Benjamin by leaving him his carseat for eight days. Benjamin was dropped off with his parents on February 4, strapped into his carseat. He was found dead on February 12 in the exact same position. Oh, can we think of appropriate punishments for these two? I think we can.

Our poster Pirelli Jones actually hit me to this story several days ago, but at the time, there was no clear cause of death. But on Wednesday, this pair of neglectful douchebags were in court on charges of first degree murder.

Peoria County State’s Attorney Kevin Lyons said that baby Benjamin “died from starvation due to neglect from these two defendants, his parents. It’s the worst case of child neglect we have seen since the turn of this century.”

Lyons said police found Benjamin sitting in his own waste, all the while strapped into the seat which was in a crib. Benjamin weighed just ten pounds when he was found, even though he’d weighed in at eight pounds at birth. During the eight days that Benjamin was dying, strapped in the seat, both Hermann and Sargent were home at various times, just hanging out and playing video games and going about their daily routines. The couple also have a three-year-old daughter.

Excuse me, I need a WTF moment. WTF?!? How do you just forget about a tiny baby for over a week? I don’t have the proper profanity right at hand for these two. Poor baby Benjamin. He died with his eyes open, fists clenched, wearing a zipped up blue snowsuit in a room where the temperature was about 80 degrees.

A person who was staying at an unattached garage apartment next to the house had seen Benjamin at one point, thought it was “odd” that he was still on the living room floor after being dropped off and moved him, car seat and all, into the other room where he was placed in the crib. Benjamin was found in the same position the neighbor had left him in over a week before.

Sargent told police that he had moved Benjamin “once or twice,” but later said that he might not have moved Benjamin at all during the week. Hermann last saw her son the night before police were notified. And get THIS – she allegedly told police she “looked at the baby in the crib and presumed he was sleeping so she said she stuck a bottle between the baby and the side of the car seat so that when he woke up, he could grab it and feed himself,” said prosecutor Lyons.

Hermann then left for Iowa to meet with a man she had met online, Lyons said, noting that she allegedly told police “that Benjamin was not her duty and that it was James’ responsibility.” Guess he didn’t take that responsibility very well, but Hermann was home for part of the time, and she didn’t take that responsibility either, apparently.

Herrman and Sargent are currently being held without bond on first-degree murder charges. Their three-year-old daughter, Natalie Grace, has been removed from the family’s custody by CPS and is in foster care. Herrman and Sargent, by all rights, should be in Hell.

Thanks to Pirelli Jones, Ells, and Kathy for their help with this story, and Ells for the pics.

This is my first post, and i can’t even begin to understand people. How do you even try to justify this???? So she stuck a bottle beside him- wow! Big deal! What a mom…..

I have never seen 2 more cracked out looking mugshots in my life.

I hope their jailer puts food just out of reach,in case they’re hungry when they wake up. If they bother to feed them that is. But nooooooooooo that would be cruel and unusual.

This is disgusting! OMG how that poor baby must have suffered. Just when you think you’ve heard it all, or the worst case possible some one new comes along and reachs a whole new level of twisted sickness.

How horrible for that little baby. :(

As to the story, well, I dunno if there’s a Hell hot enough for these two.

I didn’t help, except to ask TalkingJesus to poof her uterus away and make him impotent.

Seriously though, they are no words to describe how selfish and uncaring these two are. I think I have more loathing for her for giving birth to two children when she had no intention to care for them. Someone should teach her to keep her fat legs closed.

Somehow, I think prison isn’t going to be much of a change for them, except for the fact that she can’t go off and make any more babies. From the looks of their complexions, I don’t think they got outside much.

I really think putting them in Depends, and strapping them in a restraint chair before the trial is the only fair thing to do here. Seems fitting, I think.

Both of these idea’s are the best when put together, so that they would know exactly what they put that poor baby through.

And what the hell? You know that poor baby cried and cried at first until he had no strength left. How loud does the music have to be to drown out a screaming infant? And the poor little sister, you know she must have wondered what was wrong.

I am just happy to know that there is a God above who found it necessary, in His Great Scheme Of Things, to allow this to happen to one of His creations:

On February 12, 2008, Peoria Police responded to a call at 3012 W. Proctor Street in Peoria. Found dead and strapped in a car seat that had been placed in a crib was 5-month-old Benjamin Sargent. Benjamin was wearing a blue snow suit. It was zipped up. The temperature in the room was near 80 degrees. Benjamin’s eyes were open, his hands were clenched in a fist-like position and, although dead, his eyes were staring straight ahead. Police investigation and medical and pathological examination would reveal that Benjamin had been strapped into this car seat and had not left it in eight days. All waste and urine had collected beneath him and his buttocks, legs and back were eaten into by the resulting poison.

Ah, that crazy Lord of ours…he truly does work in mysterious ways.

Both the parents look subnormal mentally, certainly emotionally. I don’t get it. If you don’t want the kid, leave at a hospital. Or bring it to my house. At least I know enough to feed the baby and find someone who can take good care of it.

oh those bags of shit… SERIOUSLY… 8 friggin’ days this baby suffered? In his own waste, eating away at him?
I have just undergone 2 in-vitro procedures to help an infertile couple (both failed)… yet these breeders make babies and kill them.
There is no humanity in this world. I want to cry!
My 8 month old who is WAY advanced on her milestones still cannot hold a bottle, never mind fish it out of her seat while restrained…
    I can’t stand it.

There should be more public announcements out there about “adoption as an option”….if you don’t think you even want a baby, then give the baby up to a loving couple who want to love and cherish a little baby as their own….just a quick signature and you give up your rights to the infant.

I can’t even imagine what this poor little baby went through during those 8 days…the diaper rash he endured in the 1st few days, the hunger, and becoming dehydrated…this makes me so sad, I just want to cry!

WTF? Benjamin WAS her duty! Beyond a duty or a chore, he was her child! !!!!!Un-fucking-believable. I have seen a lot of posts that make my skin crawl, but this one is mind numbing. He must have cried, he must have screamed…how do you not respond to your own child’s pain? Especially if it’s of your own making? DAMN IT! How can you give birth to another life–a defenseless, little creature and just throw him away? He suffered in his own waste for 10 days. He had the horrendous luck of being born to a couple of fucktards. Blecht.

I want them to see how it feels to be in the same position, but then that seems as cruel as what those two asshats did.
I remember in Nursing School (1982/1983) when restraints were still readily used in Long Term Care Nursing Facilities, we as students were restrained for 30 min. to see how it felt. 30 min. in a chest restraint, strapped into a chair. I am an antsy fuck and thought it horrible; and I never forgot that as a nurse. 8 days in a car seat with a snow suit on, goddammit!
Nope, there is no god that controls things, or makes things happen. There is no god to stop the bad people or bad things from happening. It is just us, us crazy humans, who are fucked up to the max.

There should be more public announcements out there about “adoption as an option”….if you don’t think you even want a baby, then give the baby up to a loving couple who want to love and cherish a little baby as their own….just a quick signature and you give up your rights to the infant.

Actually, around here, flyers are everywhere as well as billboards, a couple of commercials air and signs in the courthouses (in the schools too, if I remember right). I don’t know what the hell was wrong with these people.

Peoria and the surrounding areas have been having a lot of things like this happening actually, now that I think about it.

Modine, the charging affidavit says it was a grandmother.

I know, right? Why would you even give a kid back? Especially since, according to the same prosecutor, the mother had essentially “given her three year old daughter away” to a relative and the house was in such disarray that there was spoiled food on surfaces and trash was ‘stacked’ in the house.

I’m gonna go with drug-induced haze as a causative factor here. And then i’m gonna go scrub every surface in my house.

This is truly one of the saddest stories I’ve ever read. Didn’t they hear the baby SCREAMING? That must have been so painful. The description of his lying there, eyes open as he met death…it’s just too much. I hope they get general population and are taught a thing or two about pain.

I had shied away from commenting on this one, because there’s almost no words to express my disgust. So many of these cases bring me to tears, but this one really hits hard. As someone else said – un-fucking-believable!

8 days??? Neither parent even thought about this baby, who had to have been screaming his little head off, except to put a bottle near him? WTF?? It’s obvious that the parents cared nothing for this child. And what about the neighbor? I know that it was not his responsiblity, but the neighbor could have saved this babys life! He was aware enough to think it was odd that the baby had not been moved, and put the baby – carseat and all – in the crib? Why didn’t the neighbor say something to the parents about it? Call the police?
Ugh. So many questions… but what does it matter now? Nothing can change the suffering that poor little baby exprienced. Nothing can change the fact that he was neglected to death by the very people who were supposed to love and care for him.

If women like this could get an abortion without being harrassed for it, the world would be a better place — particuarly for little babies who end up dead like this one. I’d rather die as a fetus than be water-starved to death after days of suffering in my shit-filled carrier seat.

    wrybread,

I doubt this situation has much to do with the mother being harassed for wanting an abortion, she already has one child. According to her myspace she was obviously harassed though:
“Ever been Beaten up: yes (bad soon to be ex husband)”

Plus on his page he says:
“like i said earlier i hope the girl i find does not mind my intense martial arts training. i would also hope that she would be able to get into sparring matches with me. im basically a hopless romantic.”

Maybe she got into some involuntary sparring matches or something.

By the way they write on their myspace and the level of education they seem to have I’d say what happened to this helpless little baby has everything to do with these people being a bunch of inbreeding backwoods retards. I would also venture to say that there was some kind of substance abuse going on in this household. The official report mentions people living in their garage and food left out to be spoiled. Oh yeah and a five month old baby is left strapped into a carseat with rope inside of a house for eight days.

Of COURSE there was substance abuse! What sane and sober person would leave an infant in a car seat for EIGHT DAYS and not even bother to check its diaper?! I think both of these asswipes should be lowered into a full septic tank and left without food and water for eight days. If they manage to survive that, THEN put them on trial!

The only thing that needs to be added to that is – the food and drink, sat just out of their reach – so they could look at it and dream. I might consider, on the 8th day a good shot of antibiotics – just to ensure the “poison” didn’t kill them too soon. This is one of those – keep’em alive 3 weeks just to make them suffer cases. WTH?

There are no words for this act.

Hello, I am a reporter from the Peoria Journal Star and have been covering this story. I confess I am not up to speed on MySpace but when I looked at their pages, I didn’t see any of the quotes or the pictures mentioned here. If someone could possibly email me at akravetz@pjstar.com or call 309-686-3283, I’d appareciate it. They are going to be back in court today where the state’s attorney is going to keep a no-bond hold. We are trying to advance this story and learn more about them. Anything someone here or elsewhere could do would be appreciated. Thanks. Also, I will not use names.

I didn’t help, except to ask TalkingJesus to poof her uterus away and make him impotent.

Yeah I didn’t help either just wondered what went down in the River city. Impqueen thank you for a wonderful job of researching and relating the story, now that I know I think I just threw up in my mouth.

Looking more closely at their pictures – I think she is the only one that was eating anything – look at his sunk in face.

Maybe that’s why he didn’t check on the poor little guy – he was jacked up and not hungry – why would he think his 5 month old baby needed to eat? POS.

Are there levels of POS – that we can properly degrade these sacks of shit? We are all out of the “proper profanity” suited to a crime like this – I need something to properly bash the asshats. At this moment I’m lacking………………. there still are no words. :(

So, the “mom” went in to the baby’s room the day before he was found dead, thought he was asleep and stuck a bottle in the car seat. That alone, of course is outrageous, but after 7 days wouldn’t she notice the smell of that poor baby? And he was found dead with his eyes open, staring straight ahead. How could she have though he was asleep?

There is no mention of a bottle – except her own tale. His eyes were open – just waiting to see someone he loved and recognized to save him.

Man, I hate her and him – but especially her. I actually want to hurt her more than most of the shithooks on here – not all but most.

I’m with you there, Pooh. This story has brought a whole new level of outrage here on DD, which says alot, because most of us are pretty hard-core after reading all the shit we read and are able to deal with it. This story is so senseless and so easily preventable!

She must have wanted something to happen to that poor, poor baby – just like Caren – Careless. Eight days without seeing or checking on your child – IN THE SAME HOUSE. Unfathomable. (another sorry “un” word I left out earlier).

Someone else was already caring for her 1st child – why did she have the second? An obvious inconvenience for her – wasn’t her duty – she had to run off and meet another man, while living with one already – a real piece of work. I’m about to blow a valve, a nerve or something.

I would never take away from the tragedy of little Rowan, but damn, this takes the cake. Days of sitting in your own piss and shit, while thirsting and starving to death, and having a damn heat stroke……

Hell, that’s it for the weekend. I’m out – see you all Monday. I am officially out of service, to regroup over this one. I am so sick to my stomach and I am all to pieces. Have a good weekend!

Lethal injection is too easy of a way out for these two, I say strap them both down in the same conditions, like wearing a snow suit and a depends with the temperature at 80 degrees facing each other, while smelling food cooking that they have no way of getting a hold of and letting them die the same way this poor baby did.

Pshaw, Peoria is city like Little Rock is a city and there are definitely more crackers per 1000 in both of those “cities” than in some more rural areas.

    Peoria as of 2000 — 113,000 people
    Peoria metropolitan area — 370,000

That’s not New York, but it’s not rural countryside. Anyway I just wondered why the rural sterotype was used when it’s just as likely that they are the products of urban inbreeding. I know — it’s okay to make fun of people who live in the countryside. Usually I get tired of it, but once in a while it gets under my skin.

    I love this part:

“Police noted that she (the mother) seemed callous and somewhat annoyed with the process, something similar to what she showed in the courtroom today,”

The mother’s attitude is appalling…but what was I expecting? Remorse on her part? Yeah, not bloody likely. Augh!

I meant, usually I don’t care too much when people reach in their bag of auto-insults and pull out some reference to rural people, but once in a while it gets under my skin to hear it.

However, that is quite unimportant in the face of this horrible, horrible crime. I shudder every time I think of this little infant crying until too exhausted and famished to cry any more, little squalling attempts at cries now and again, and then just a silent wait for the kind comfort of death.

James Sargent’s adopted mother says her son James Sargent has a history of depression and was once diagnosed with bi-polar disorder and spent sometime in Zeller Mental Health Center.

She says she does not know if Sargent has been taking medication lately but says he and Tracy Hermann always seemed like normal happy parents. She did say the couple had been fighting lately but she did not think it was affecting caring for the baby.

This story is all too horrible…weeks ago, we were reading about other horrible stories happening to other babies and children…with another tragedy waiting to surface, like this one.

Some stories don’t leave the same impact as this one has…(there are some), but you wonder HOW many little babies and toddlers are out there right now being neglected or abused…still alive at the moment, not knowing what it’s like to live a normal life…to be loved and cherished. Their young, innocent life to be cut so short by the hands of their Abuser…the only way for them to have peace is in death. Poor little babies, I shed another tear for you.

The article stated “Lyons also said he might seek the death penalty for the two and has 120 days to make such a decision. State law allows a capital charge if the accused is older than 17 and the victim is younger than 12.”

Hope they decide to lock them up for life without possibility of parole. These two need time to consider the magnitude of their crimes. Prison is, in itself, a slow death.

New article on the story. It states the mother never wanted him & wanted to put him up for adoption. It also says she had no part in feeding, changing, bathing him. James Sargent’s grandmother says when she dropped the baby off on Feb. 4th he was not in his snowsuit & was taken out of the car seat changed, fed & put to bed in his crib sans carseat.

That mother should had given him up for adoption at birth–I bet someone or several people talked her out of it. People shouldn’t try to talk pregnant mothers out of giving up their babies or make them feel guilty about it.

I wonder why this story isn’t getting more Nat’l Media coverage (can you just see Nancy Grace ripping those parents apart?? Esp now that she has 2 babies of her own…)

I agree it needs more coverage. As a refrequent reader of this site, PBB, Websleuths, etc it takes a lot to shock me but this story did it. And I never post on here. But this just makes me ill. I am a mom of a 7 month old, 2 year old & 6 year old. My son is only a month older than Benjamin & I just don’t know how anyone could do this.

James Sargent was adopted so I bet he talked her out of giving the baby up. Even so she still has blame in this. You know that baby was crying when he was starving. And she was there for at least several days during that period of time. How could she ignore him? Even if she didn’t want him, he was a defenseless, helpless baby who needed someone.

I would have gladly taken him. It makes me so mad & sick.

I just wish there was some way to prevent this from happening. But I don’t know how.

I was reading how there is a nursery program in their city for parents who need help. You can drop off any child under the age of 5 yrs. for free 24 hour a day & they offer resources to help you. It is in the same city that they lived in!

James Sargent’s mother says when she dropped the baby off on Feb. 4th he was not in his snowsuit & was taken out of the car seat changed, fed & put to bed in his crib sans carseat.

I cant imagine them taking the time, to get him up and put his snowsuit back on him, and leave him sitting in the carseat on the floor, which is where the person from the garage apartment said they found him, and then put him in his crib still in the carseat. Unless I guess James took him somewhere between those times, which just seems unlikely. or would have been mentioned?

It is definitely strange & something doesn’t add up.

I find it SO hard to believe that James would bother to dress his son appropriately to go outside in a snowsuit but then can’t be bothered to change him or feed him for 8 days????

Maybe his mother is protecting him? Because it also says the house was not in chaos with filth & spoiled food which contradicts the police report.

You just have to wonder what the hell thought process took place to go from taking care of a baby for 5 months, to just one day suddenly deciding to let it die this way.

I’m pretty sure James’ mother would not say she knew the house was in horrible condition, and she just left the baby there anyways… That would impicate herself.

But on the other hand, something drastic changed in those days from a parent that took care of a child, to one that just let everything go to shit… So, it’s possible that the house wasn’t as bad when she was there as it was on the day the baby was found.

This whole thing just makes me want to vomit every time I think about it. This was something that was clearly intentional, a concious decission to NOT change him, feed him, hold him, care for him. Over several days… Not just a breif snap or an explosive moment. There is just no hell hot enough for these 2.

Yes it makes me really wonder what the hell happened? I know the mother left him to go meet a guy she met on myspace from Iowa but that was only the day before the baby died. I just don’t understand how two people could ignore him?

The coroner did say it didn’t seem like he had been well cared for before he died. He was born at 8 lbs & weighed 10 at his death. At 5 months my son weighed 17 lbs.
But he obviously had been fed & changed on a somewhat regular basis for 5 months & then they they just stopped? WTF?!

I keep thinking about the bottle the mother said she left the day before he died. I really hope he didn’t see the bottle. How cruel would that be?! When my son sees his bottle he gets so excited.

I cannot get over the fact that this pos has “proud parent” on his myspace as of his last login date of 2/2/08. Un-flippin-believable! I did a search for her page and cannot find it, did someone take it down?
There is no torture heinous enough for these two. No one would be able to come close to the punishment they deserve, even if we could bring them back from death time and time again. Hell will not punish them the way they deserve.

    Sargent, Benjamin
PEORIA – Benjamin Allen Reeve Sargent, 5 months, of Peoria passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008, at his residence in Peoria.
Benjamin was born Aug. 27, 2007, to James E. Sargent and Tracy Del Hermann of Peoria.
    Benjamin is survived by his loving parents; a sister, Natalie-Grace Hermann of Peoria;

Benjamin is survived by his loving parents? I read this and thought what the hell. If these so called loving parents actually love this baby, he would still be alive!

“Loving parents”???? This makes me so sick!!

I wonder if James mom talked Tracey into keeping the baby when she was pregnant–that would be self-fish of her…

I wish the National Media would run this, I’m sick of hearing stories about Britney/Lindsey and that Peterson guy who murdered his wife? (I think that was the guy–as I flipped channels last night, it was on Nancy Grace and Cooper Anderson).

I can’t believe some writer would actually have the nerve to write that Benjamin was “survived by his loving parents”. What’s so loving about what they did to him, leaving him for eight days to sit in his own waste and starve to death. Even if they get life in prison they would still be better off than Benjamin was because they get food and warm beds and be coddled in the prison system. This story sickens me, that baby suffered so much and he never asked to be born to such incompetent heartless parents.

I keep thinking about the bottle the mother said she left the day before he died. I really hope he didn’t see the bottle. How cruel would that be?! When my son sees his bottle he gets so excited.

I thought I read that the mom stuck the bottle with the baby the day before she left to meet her online bf, which was the day before Benjamin was found. I thought he was probably already dead when she left the bottle there.

Tracy will never feel remorse for what she has done because she will never take responsability for her own actions. James is just plain sick he always has been, three days after the death he was at my home and felt no remorse for ben. He just wanted tracy.

Benjamin is survived by his loving parents? I read this and thought what the hell. If these so called loving parents actually love this baby, he would still be alive!

We read a lot of obituaries on our radio station and there is a formula to them. It’s likely that the funeral home put this out. They aren’t going to comment on the circumstances of the death, no matter how heinous.

If they did, it would make obituary pages much more interesting to read.

Anyone else hoping they get the death penalty or am I just sick and twisted?

ME!ME!ME! I WANT THEM TO FRY! PLEASE!PLEASE! PLEEEEEEEASE!?!?!? I’ll volunteer to flip the switch myself, and I’ll even sing them a nice funeral dirge as I do it. How does this sound: “Tra-la-la-boom-dee-ay, another ass-munch died today! I hope they rot in hell, if Satan can stand the smell” (of their sorry pos asses, that is). Well, what do you think? Anybody wanna play guitar or drums while I sing and send them on their way? Even better would be killing them the way I suggested in post#59, and pooh elaborated on in post#60. That way I could sing for them for days, and drive them insane while they rot in a tub of sewage. I’ll be the first to admit that my voice has been known to crack on occasion. I think making them insane before they die would be even better. Maybe I need help – I have spent the last three days thinking up numerous ways to torture and maim these two walking wastes of oxygen, and in my musings, I play a major part in most of the scenarios. Anybody remember the case about the five (or was it six) people who held that girl captive for a week or so (I think it was N.C. or Virginia, or somewhere around there). They tortured her and did all kinds of horrible things to her the whole time. I think we should throw the sperm donor and incubator ((they are NOT parents) of Benjamin in a cell with these people and tell them (the pervs) they have permission to do worse to them (the baby killers). God, help me, I really think I need to see a shrink after this one! Poor baby boy.

James Sargent was adopted so I bet he talked her out of giving the baby up.

I’m not offended or anything by this generalization but as an adopted person I think other adoptees would be more likely to take advantage of the service (provided their satisfied with the deal they got of course) growing up I heard all the horror stories of how bad it could have been to reinforce my gratitude to my abusers/I mean parents.

That doesn’t seem to add up to me.

What doesn’t add up about a doting grandma trying to bolster the story of her child? Of course she thought the baby was happy, healthy, loved, and well cared for. Don’t all babies balloon up a whopping two pounds in the first five months?

If that poor baby hadn’t been found in the snowsuit/carseat and corroborated by the crackhead in the garage that moved the corpse I’d maybe believe granny…maybe.

In that petition, prosecutors allege the couple’s pit bulls tried to attack a 2-year-old girl last April. When a woman went to protect the child, James Sargent allegedly told the woman that he would “cut her head off.” Police were called and found a large sword and knife collection in his house as well as some drug paraphernalia. He was arrested for that and sentenced to probation a few months later.

Yeah, this is pretty telling. What a fucking psycho

I had started typing a comment, but had to go puke when I read “loving parents”.

Anyway, grandma is lying through her teeth. The baby was found exactly how she dropped him off. She does not want to admit to anyone, including herself, that her son is a sack of shit, too sorry to get up and tend to his own child.

No one, who would leave a baby for 8 days without checking on them, would re-dress the child and place him back in the seat. BUT, let’s say grandma is the beacon of honesty and what she says is true – then her statement PROVES premeditation to kill this poor baby SLOWLY – lets sweat him, thirst him, and starve him to death, all the while, we’ll leave him, the whole time, in his own waste. **pukes again – tears flowing freely, once more**

Sorry, grandma, your son is a POS that didn’t care for his child. And your daughter-in-law, I have no words other than sorry, sorry, bitch.

I would love to be locked in a room with that bitch for a little while. Win, lose, or draw – I would in some way exact some revenge for this poor, poor child. I HATE HER!!!!

    Pooh:
Want some company in that room? I think between the two of us, we could each grab a leg and swing her at the wall like a bat. A difficult, yet worthwhile undertaking. I hate her, and all those who are or will become like her. We should build a big bonfire, and toast ‘em all like marshmallows.

I certainly do want some company – but not to tag team her – I’ll need you to step up and continue the ass kicking, while I catch my breath.

I’m a little out of shape to undertake an ass kicking of this length, by myself. Should have ran that extra mile, I guess.

I swear I could sit on her chest and punch her about the head and neck until I could no longer lift my arms. But, not to worry I own many, many pairs of good boots, to continue the kicking. Now, when my legs tire, too – you’re gonna have to take over for a while. I should be rested by the time you wear out………………………………………

Hell, I take that back, we can tag team her and then take turns. What’s the difference, no matter what one or both of us dished out, I don’t think we could begin to equal the suffering that poor, poor baby experienced. IN HATE HER!!!

This story has haunted me since I first read about it, leading me to read more and try to get to the bottom of how somebody could be so sick as to neglect their baby for 8 straight days. After reading all the articles that have been written and even visiting the myspace sites of the degenerate parents (creepy!) I have one nagging question. It is a given that the parents are classic psychopaths since they seem to have no remorse, yet even if they had no sympathy or compassion for the baby, how could they go about their business and leave a baby to a slow death of starvation and dehydration. I would imagine the heart-shattering screams of the baby would have left them sleepless. Even if they were zonked out on drugs, I can’t imagine how they could not have been affected, even just by irritation, by the screams of their baby. Something here just does not add up. Anybody else perplexed by this?

Besides, it would take less than one day, I would imagine, for the baby to have cried himself so hoarse that the only sounds he would have been capable of would amount to little more than croaks. Add to that lack of any form of sustenance, solid or liquid, and the time frame for loss of voice could probably have been measured in mere hours. A day at the local mall or bar for the genetic mutant assholes, would have probably taken care of that as well. Just thinking out loud…..

Good point, Angel, I didn’t think about that. That just makes it all the more horrifying, though, the thought of that poor baby that can’t even scream, but just croak in misery. Damn, I wish I hadn’t started researching this in the first place.

I do not have an update other than an old update. Ms Baker killed her son-in-law/daughter’s boyo or whatever. She has offered up testimony that the abuser boyo was “going to gut her”. Evidently, they are trying to find some way to use self-defense or defense of family, not sure what the correct terminology is. It was stated that the abusing POS, was the grandson of Magistrate Darrell Black of Huntington, WV.

I’m glad you brought it up, I had, to be honest with you, had forgotten about Ms Baker. I did sent an e-mail to the mayor of Huntington, on her behalf. I believe Morbid linked it in the original thread, should you want to send one in defense of Ms Baker.

It made me feel better. I stated how if the police had done their jobs, (ie serving the warrents, responding to 911 calls) this event would have never happened. I also asked the mayor, what his officers did to earn their pay – since obviously, they did not serve warrents or respond to 911 calls? I called on him for accoutability from his officers drawing a fat check, while doing nothing more that sitting on their asses.

I hope that Ms Baker got a descent attorney, if there is such a thing.

If I find or have anything more, I will post it on Ms Baker’s thread, instead of here.

The two are scheduled to appear in court tomorrow to enter pleas on their indictments. A trial date will likely be set a couple of months out but that is not a firm date. Any jury trial is probably months down the road.

The only choices these two should be given when entering their plea are
    1. Guilty as hell, Your Honor; and
    2. Guilty as fuck, Your Honor
Either of those will do just fine, I think.

    1. Guilty as hell, Your Honor; and
    2. Guilty as fuck, Your Honor
Either of those will do just fine, I think.

  • nurseronda

The two are scheduled to appear in court tomorrow to enter pleas on their indictments. A trial date will likely be set a couple of months out but that is not a firm date. Any jury trial is probably months down the road.

Where do you think that they will find 12 or more people who have not heard of the horrible crime that they did to that baby boy? Change of venue to where?…Mars?

I am totally new to this site, and this story really irritates me… my 3rd daughter was born on August 21st, 2007… only 6 days older than this baby… and I have more than a WTF moment…

People say she’s spoiled, I say she’s cared for… I cannot possibly imagine ignoring her more than a few seconds as she cries…. and that is only to put something down to pick her up, which is all she really may want! I am baffled how this could happen… how people could allow this to happen to their baby… how a mother could just …. forget…. and not care.

This is so so sad.Why are the parents not taking resposability for their actions by pleading not guilty?
Has anyone try to contact any natiowide show (Nancy Grace or Greta Van Susteren etc) for this case?

A May 12 trial date was set, with a May 2 scheduling conference, though it’s likely that date will be pushed back given that

Peoria County State’s Attorney Kevin Lyons has not decided whether he will seek the death penalty. State law allows a capital charge if the accused is older than 17 and the victim is younger than 12.

Lyons was out of town Thursday and could not be reached for comment.

The couple faces 20 to 100 years in prison if convicted because prosecutors allege their actions were “brutal and heinous . . .

The lanaguage used for the “brutal and heinous” is legalese which allows the stiffer sentence. A jury, however, must return a verdict that indicates the couple is not only guity of murder but also acted in a brutal way for the stiffer sentence to apply. But that’s months down the road. They haven’t even had a trial date set yet.

Trial is set for May 12 after the coroner’s inquest found that Benjamin died of dehydration, starvation and sepsis.

The sepsis part was because Benjamin’s clothing was “saturated” in urine and feces which broke down his skin and entered his bloodstream in the hours prior to his death, killing him.

This story is so fucking horrific. So fucking HORRIFIC. I really can’t even find words. Just…ugh. How? How the fuck could anyone do something like this? I can’t even imagine the hell that poor baby was going through…screaming out of hunger, waiting in vain for someone to come and help him, abandoned and alone, left to starve in filth.

I am an avowed agnostic, but I hope with all of my heart that there is a Hell so that these two pieces of shit can rot there for eternity.

And that there’s a Heaven so that this baby is loved and cared for forever.

Don’t tempt me. It’s not that far where I live. Literally an hour away.

I actually first stumbled upon the D’D because I had heard about this story locally, and became obsessed with it. I read everything I could find on-line and sat at my desk, dumstruck and crying my eyes out. I seriously still feel so sick about it. This is perhaps the worst thing I’ve ever known about. It’s literally traumatized me for life.

I was just checking to see if I could find any updates earlier today, but alas, my stalking just isn’t up to par. Thanks for the updates.

I hope the pain of knowing what they did will be an endless source of torment that aches their soul as it slowly rots. I want them to be repulsed at their own very existence.

Yeah, I live in Chicago, so that is about an hour and a half out from where I live. No freedom for them, eh? Hmmm…prision visit? We could all say we are old friends in from Peoria that just stopped by to say “Hi” and would like some quality alone time with our dear friend Tracey…and once alone with her, bring out the fucking baseball bats and whatever else we could get our freaking hands on.

Okay, that is probably an unrealistic scenario, but it did make me smile.

I just want to strap this Herrman bitch down and wait eight days while the urine eats through her skin and poisons her, I want to eat in front of her and plug my ears and sing lahalahalah when she has needs and cries out….maybe punch her every time she cries.

Of all the pathetic shit holes that are showcased on this site, she tops my list of utter loathing. Her lack of remorse is sickening. And she didn’t out right kill him, no, she let him suffer and suffer horribly and then was PUT OUT by police questioning. NOT MY DUTY?? FUCK YOU TRACEY HERRMAN

Oh god, I’ve never had a child, but I can’t fathom turning my back on someone so small and helpless. How can you look at a baby who is obviously in greater and greater distress day after day and say “not my duty”?! Maybe, it’s a good thing I can’t fathom that, a good thing that I am an empathic creature and not a sociopath.

Sorry for the crazy long entry, this case just blew and continues to blow my mind.

Silvahalo, there hasn’t even been a trial yet. The trial was continued (delayed) until August. Both Tracey Hermann and James Sargent are still in jail without bond until then.

Just because they’ve plead not guilty doesn’t mean they’ll be acquitted at trial. I’m pretty sure a jury’s going to have a hard time getting around the evidence – pictures, no doubt, of this dead baby in his carseat. A conviction for one or both parents is very likely in this case.

It’s not time to worry yet. This case is just getting started.

The way this poor baby suffered and suffered, they should get the “stiffest” sentence – the death penalty. I know in Riley’s case, the DA has decided not to persue the death penalty – has there been any indication if the DA will seek the death penalty for these two POS? That question may have already been answered, but I don’t remember.

I do remember the description of poor, poor Benjamin and just can’t get that mental image out of my head. It brings a tear everytime I can visualize that poor baby trapped in his seat. Waiting for Aug. 4 and hoping that the judge will not allow any more continuances. :(

I am with you guys 100% on this one. Tracy and James both need to suffer.

I can tell you that Natalie Grace Hermann is in good hands right now. Even though Natalie is in custody of the Child and Family Services, she is being taken care of by my aunt and uncle. My brother was married to Tracy before they divorced, and then she moved on to this prick.

I can tell you Tracy only cares about herself. She thinks she can say the right thing and she will have what she wants. I have news for Tracy, theres no sweet-talking the justice system. She committed a crime. And for what its worth, if she didn’t live with us for awhile, I believe Natalie, too, would have ended up like Benjamin. I mean, my god, Tracy tried to give Natalie an uncut turkey sandwich when she was less than a year old. I know what Tracy is like!!

Tracy should die. So should James. End of Story, Period!!

Welcome Mokatu – thank goodness that Natalie is safe. I still picture baby Benjamin’s tragic end. This one has stayed with me like only a couple of other stories have. It hurts – BAD and I don’t even know anyone personally.

I pray for Natalie and all involved with this thing of a woman. I will not call her a mother. I hope that Natalie can be sheltered somewhat from all that her mother has done. I don’t mean that Natalie should not know the truth. I only hope there will be a way to tone it down a bit, for Natalie’s sake. The knowledge she has of her mother and what she has done to date, is enough to make any child have issues. I hope that she may be spared some of the horrid details or at least, have them put to her as gently as possible, at an age in which she is mature enough to deal with these sad facts.

Thank you for the update Andy.Kravetz!

I found the article on pjstar.com for anyone interested in reading it or looking it up. I can’t post links, because apparently I am evil or something.

‘One defendant claims a mental history and collapse, while the other one says she was simply not interested in parenting,’ Lyons said.

How fucking disgusting, her second child and she was just not interested? How can you already have a child, create ANOTHER one and then decided you aren’t interested? Surely, you should’ve realized that the first fucking time around instead of letting him starve to death.

Excuse me, but how does “I have no interest in parenting so I left my child to roast/starve/marinate-in-feces until dead” translate into an extenuating circumstance that should preclude the death penalty??

Hmmmm? Enquiring minds want to know…

I read the article and understand why Kevin Lyons felt he couldn’t seek the death penalty. However, he’s still good people by me.

“‘Instead, I’ll seek to make them live in the general populations of the Stateville, Pontiac and Menard prisons, each day, every day,’ Lyons said.”

    Works for me.

I would give anything if there was some way I could have rescued him. There would definitely have been room for another little boy in my home. RIP, Ben. And rot in hell, Tracy and James.

In lieu of the death penalty, I hope each and every minute of every day of Tracey Hermann’s self centered, pathetic, and miserable existence is filled with either emotional or physical pain. I hope she is used and abused repeatedly by a Bertha who “is simply not interested” in her health or well being.

If you are not interested in parenting and can’t figure that out before you have children, have the decency to give them up for adoption. So many people would have loved and cared for that little boy and he would still be alive.

Her blatant disinterest in his prolonged suffering will always baffle, enrage, and haunt me.

I second Squeakclean’s sentiments: Rot in hell, Tracy and James.

Blaming each other? So what. Seriously, this bugs me, that this should effect the state’s decision about pursuing the DP. I’m not actually a DP advocate, but if it exists in this state, it exists to be used.

There is not much that you could come up with in this life that would be more cruel and brutal that what these two fucks did to that baby. I’d much rather get slammed over the head with a crowbar than endure what this poor child endured before death.

If one of them HAD slammed him with a crowbar, then I could see the he said/she said dilemma the prosecutors would have. But since they were both the parents, both in the home, and both failed to render aid to this child — for a REALLY protracted period — both are at fault. 100% and without question.

How can either pointing at the other possibly matter in this case???

Go on. Tell me what I’m missing.

WTH? Is this supposed to be one of those brilliant moves, to ensure a conviction? How much more heinous could this have been? I can’t believe the DP is off the table. Weak ass DA.

Excuse me, but how does “I have no interest in parenting so I left my child to roast/starve/marinate-in-feces until dead” translate into an extenuating circumstance that should preclude the death penalty??

Exactly, what I would like to know? Thats was pure and utter premeditation, if it ever existed! Damn, I cannot believe this.

“‘Instead, I’ll seek to make them live in the general populations of the Stateville, Pontiac and Menard prisons, each day, every day,’ Lyons said.”

What a cup of shit and a lie. He will not get to decide that they are in general population. He/she’s only trying to make their ass look better in the face of public outrage. The prison system decides what level of security and protection these POS will get. His recommendation will mean less than zero. If they are in danger, by law – and a suck, shitty law I might add, the state will have to give them the protective housing or be held liable, in the event someone should dispense a little prison justice. Total and utter bullshit.

I’m gonna reread the article again, just to make sure I didn’t miss anything.

That’s the way, show some more parents there really isn’t severe punishments for SLOWLY killing your child, in a HORRIFIC way. Good example you bastards! DAMN, DAMN AND DOUBLE DAMN!

Although Illinois has the death penalty, the state doesn’t use it. Remember George Ryan? Well, before he got sent to the big house.

Lyons is probably making the best choice here. If the county goes after the death penalty, each def gets ‘certified’ DP lawyers, the county pays for them, there are only a few in the state.

Let these two rot in prison, and then in hell.

I’ve talked to Andy Kravetz a few times — he is good people.

Well Imp, I can see why you have a journalist crush. (: As sad and enraged as this story makes me, these sub human sacks of shit need to be recognized for the monsters that they are. Every inmate needs to know that they will be joining them behind bars and every inmate needs to plan just how miserable they will make Tracy Hermann and James Sargent feel from the moment they step inside their cell and the metal door slides shut behind them to the moment when they are “accidentally” disposed of.

The hearing you had asked about was a scheduling conference, or essentially a final pre-trial conference. The judge wants the two sides to come together a week to 10 days before the trial to make sure things are on track. Usually 40 to 50 cases are set in each of our felony courtrooms for such a purpose. Most are continued. Some plead and some are “left on” for trial knowing the person will plead or it will get kicked to a later date.

The two will usually always appear together as they are codefendants. There are some hearings where James had just been there but for the most part, they are both there. If you have more questions, email me.

How? How do you ignore the cries of a 5 mo. old for 8 days? How do you explain why you aren’t attending to him to your 3 yr. old? How does the houseguest explain not doing something? Honestly — he tried to change his story — he knew he was wrong, too!

The MOST haunting sentence from this article was this (for me) –

He died with his eyes open, fists clenched, wearing a zipped up blue snowsuit in a room where the temperature was about 80 degrees.

Died with his eyes OPEN?? Dear God! And that statement helps to make the following statement BULLSHIT!

Ummm… what??? Sleeping — with his EYES OPEN? Also, since when can a 5 mo. old baby reach beside themselves to pick up and hold a bottle?? Especially one who would have been so weakened by the 7 days of pure, evil neglect? Oh – and 7 days worth of urine and feces – super heated – isn’t gonna STINK? Gimme a break Tracy!! You lying, conniving, selfish piece of fecal bacteria!

This is truly a disgusting, disturbing, horrifying and vile story. There is NO punishment that could even begin to equal justice — NONE. Die slowly, painfully, fearfully and lonely you two shit stains.

Best of luck to Natalie Grace. Prayers for a life filled with love, attention, devotion and happiness for you and your new family.

Of all the shitty stories I have read on this site, this one is still the worst.  My heart breaks every time I think of that poor baby, alone in his car seat, dying…Jesus.  I can’t stop myself from picturing it, and it just fucking KILLS me. How could anyone do something like this?

The “father” should have fucking fried for this, but I guess living the rest of his life in a cell is better than nothing.  Looking forward to that bitch of a “mother” getting what’s coming to her, too.

The articles at the link ineedanap posted make me want to track these people down and stomp their heads to a mushy pulp.  The photo of this baby brings me to tears.  He was so beautiful.  No one deserves to die like that, let alone a helpless baby.

Tracy Hermann admitted in a barely audible tone Monday she made a disastrous “mistake” last year when she and her former boyfriend allowed their 5-month-old son to go without food and sit in his own waste for several days, which eventually caused his death.

Hermann, 23, of 3012 W. Proctor St. apologized to everyone in the courtroom, saying she believed that her plea to first-degree murder and subsequent sentence of 50 years would allow her son, Benjamin, to finally have “justice.”

I am gentle to people, extremely caring of animals, and an all around nice person (even though I am a lawyer). But I wish nothing but the most horrible punishment and pain upon these two “people” who were the “parents” of this poor, poor, poor baby. I hope the remainders of their lives are extremely unhappy and filled with despair. Yes, I realize that I am not being forgiving and kind, but there are just so many people in this world who deserve NOTHING but contempt and pain and scorn and punishment. These creatures are two of them.

This story still makes me cry every time I read it. Even though the sperm donor got 100 years and the incubator got 50 years, it still doesn't feel like enough.

She admitted that she made a “mistake.” In my world, a mistake is screwing up my income taxes or missing a stitch in my crochet. What she did was selfish, cruel, and deliberate. I hope she and her ex both serve every day of their sentence, and I hope that one day they bot express true remorse for the heinous murder they both committed.

  • vxiii

Clearly, anyone can look at these two fuckers and see they are retarded inbred POS, the baby in his picture looks so unhappy already, its been a while but I hope these fuckers got long sentences and I am going to look them up and write them letters but I doubt either of them could understand whatever I have to say, these are retarded people here, lowlife neanderthals such as this (and I am not saying all retarded people are lowlifes) such as this should be monitored or not allowed to have children together, I hate these two more than almost anyone Ive seen at DD, this poor little child, wish I could hold him and care for him because he didnt have a chance being born to these two retarded people…. kiss baby Ben, rest in peace, wish you would have had better parents, I will make sure you arent forgotten sweetness…

Tracy needs serious help.  She claims it was all the baby’s father’s fault.  She lives in a sick delusional world…walking around in Dwight like she has done no wrong.  She has sick fantasies of a caring priest who visits her pathetic ass in there.  Tracy deserves nothing but to be strapped in her bunk and left for dead as she did her helpless infant son.  She is a pathetic waste of skin.  And I’m sorry but Illinois should have never taken away the death penalty.  These monsters are able to walk around, go to school, and live their lives while taxpayers pay for it.  No any child crime case should be executed.  Especially cases like this.
