Florida - People driving around the Fiske and Dixon Boulevard intersection in Cocoa witnessed Delores, 55, beating her 2-year-old grandson. Witnesses observed Delores slapping the child with an open hand, dumping him out of his stroller on to the sidewalk, where he hit his head, and then sling him back into the stroller and continue hitting him. At one point during the attack, the boy was unconscious.
The responding police officer witnessed some of the attack and describe the boy as a rag doll. The oficer had to wrestle the boy away from Delores. “The child was walking toward traffic and the officer was still struggling with her,” Barbara Matthews with Cocoa police said. “He was trying to make the decision to let go of her, grab the child and just then, fortunately for us, a witness came up and grabbed the child before he could get out into traffic.”
The boy was released from the hospital on Saturday night. Police did not receive an explanation from her about why she may have done this. However, she did make a short statement to reporters (in the video). “Hamorephadites. Klu Klux Klan Charlaklan,” she states.
The grandmother is charged with aggravated battery and child abuse. She is still in jail where she is probably talking to Jesus and swatting at imaginary demons.

Crazy bitch. Who leaves their child with a woman who’s babbling about the KKK? I hope that baby’s mama has a Myspace so we can find her and ridicule her at length. Because one does not go from perfectly normal to “Homo Morphodites” and baby-beating in the course of a morning.

Feb 18, 2008 at 4:44 pm -Exactly. In an instance like this the patrents should be charged with child endangerment. When I looked at the photo and video of this woman, the first impression I had was that of looking at an angry, cornered wild animal. All kinds of scary, that one is. There is no way she could hide that she’s crazy and that anyone would leave a small child with this nutbar is inexplicable.

I’m actually finding the Trinity Of Insane Declarations to be kinda fun and stress relieving. Smacking a baby up, not so much, but maybe she’s onto something with the preachin’ part.
And no doubt you’re right. I’ll see what i can dig up.

“Matthews said Justin’s parents are divorcing and the father, Joseph Woods, has custody. His mother was watching the boy while he worked.”
Interesting that the dad has custody. That doesn’t happen often.

Feb 19, 2008 at 8:21 am -Im sorry, I know a lot of people feel differently about this, and many of them are good parents, but… I refuse to hit my child when he misbehaves. I just can’t imagine trying to teach my child that violence solves nothing, but at the same time using violence myself to control him. It seems so hypocritical to me. i hope Im not making a mistake and raising some psycho brat, but it’s the decision that I have made

There is a difference between spanking a child on the butt and beating him until he is unconscious. Anti-spanking people should not use these type of cases to support their decisions.

I’ve observed that toddlers seem to react to the shame of a little smack (and I do mean little) than any hurt. It’s as if their picture of themselves as “big people” gets a reality check and they are reminded who the parent is.
I’ve met a lot of very bratty, forward kids who “reason” and “argue” a point quite brilliantly until they wear Mommy down and get exactly what they want. They’ve been taught that everything is explained in detail and questions encouraged until THEY are satisfied with the reasons. Well, they learn to game this system and never be satisfied until they win through verbal endurance. A smack or two might be needed here. On the other hand, perhaps they will grow up to be wealthy lawyers!
So, I don’t know what’s best. It probably depends on the child. This woman was insane and I wonder why she wasn’t in a hospital.
