Cynthia Hernandez Shot Her Son

Tempe, AZ — Cynthia Hernandez, 45, was arrested on FridayFriday reviews
on a homicide charge for killing her 14-year-old son , Jeremy Barragan, by shooting him in the head. Hernandez had called Tempe police on Thursday to report a “family feud”, but police found nothing wrong when they arrived. The next morning, Jeremy’s father called police to the home again to report that his son was dead.
Officers determined that Jeremy had been fatally shot, secured the scene and started a search for evidence and a suspect. Later on Friday, the department issued an advisory that there were no outstanding suspects in the case. Shortly after that, Hernandez was arrested in her son’s murder.
Police say they will give a press conference on SaturdaySaturday reviews
with further details. I’m expecting a Medea-like murder: hurt the father by killing the son, or some such variant. I’ll update as information comes out, as usual. But seriously, how much do you have to hate a kid to wait until he’s fourteen, then pop a bullet in his head? That’s just not good parenting.
Cynthia Hernandez is being held by Tempe authorities – no bail or charge information is yet available.

I last saw him thursday night at the movies, he was happy with his friends, but then he had to get home. Jeremy was the type of guy who would do what he believed in, but knew when to step down. He did not like his mom at all but he loved her. He had been missing/late for the last two weeks to school so something was going on at home.

I’m very sorry for your loss. I hope the school you both attend has a couselor to help you and his friends cope with this tragedy. My son will turn 13 in May and he is also a big kid, 6′ and close to 200 lbs. but he would never hurt anybody. This is way too sad.

wonder if he was talking dad’s side in the divorce proceedings – when i was going thru separation my kids said hurtful things like “dad has a better this or that or its more fun there” One year I took their christmas gift back cause they rather be at his house for example … no i wouldn’t obviously kill them over it just wonder if she was having a nervous break down.

Chango, I’m so sorry for your loss.
The dad told police he had awakened to find Jeremy dead. Whether he got home earlier and took a nap or was off work that night I don’t know, but police say that the father woke up to find Jeremy gone.
Wonder, I haven’t seen anything from the Tempe School District to indicate that this Cynthia Hernandez worked there – Hernandez is a very common surname in Tempe. If I do find out where she worked or if she worked, I’ll update and let you know. The Cynthia Hernandez you linked to is an office clerk in a central building, so doesn’t have contact with students anyway.
The Tempe Schools haven’t issued a statement. McKemy Middle School where Jeremy went has, and did not mention Cynthia being a Tempe employee. If she was, I bet we’ll find out, although I’m not sure why it’s important since she wasn’t in contact with kids.

Ok Wonder that’s just messed up!! I’m sorry but this is someone who grew up with Jeremy and I have to say that he wouldn’t do that! He was the best guy that I knew. And you have a right to say what you want to say. I’m not taking that away from you… It just really hurts because he got shot while sleeping so there was no violence. And to hear that a kid I grew up with is gone and the person who shot him was his own mother!! And she won’t even go to prison! Cause more then likely the lawyer going to plead insanity. St_Jimmy, I’m sorry for your loss. There’s nothing to indicate that Jeremy was a threat to his mother.

Wonder didn’t say exactly why she took the present back. There’s surely a lot more to it than “just” the kids preferring their father’s Christmas to hers. I’ll bet it was a pretty painful time that made her do this.
StJimmy — We speculate on what may have happened. At the point Wonder said this, we didn’t have your information. Remember that this isn’t a memorial site for friends and family; it’s a crime blog. And we are all sorry that you lost a friend in this awful way. He sounds like a nice person.

Most of the people at DD are all about the victim and I can assure you that every one here wants justice for your friend or it would not have made the front page, or garnered many comments. With out new information, speculation is going to happen on why she may have done what she did.
No one is *really* blaming the victim and any light you can shed on new details or later on with legal proceedings is welcome.

Well from what I was told Cynthia that she was taking medication and she wasn’t all there. That’s why they moved to Arizona to start a new life. I also remember that Cynthia did try to stab her husband… That’s what my dad told me.

Jeremy was my brother and for all u dumm asses talking shit about him better just shut it. he was a good boy, the most loving and caring person in the world. Our mother was a psycho and i hope that bitch burns in hell for all eternity.
