McDonald County, MO – Last November, McDonald County Sheriff’s Deputy Jacob Boles was helping with the search for Rowan Ford when he remembered about a sinkhole where he used to play. The FBI had mentioned wanting a look at the sinkhole, but hadn’t gotten out there yet. So Boles, 27, and another deputy stopped by on the way to work the next morning. Using a rope, and flashlight, and a buddy to hold the rope, Boles lowered himself into the sinkhole and saw the mostly nude, bloodied body of Rowan Ford. She was found.
And Deputy Jake Boles was lost.
By December, Boles wasn’t doing so well. One source said that “Jake just seemed stressed all the time, you know? Preoccupied. Like he couldn’t stop thinking about it, about what would make someone do that,” referring to Rowan’s rape and murder.
On December 11 and again on January 21, Boles decided to find out. He is accused of having deviate sexual intercourse with a fourteen year old girl on those dates. He has been indicted by a Missouri state grand jury, and was arrested FridayFriday reviews
by the Missouri State Highway Patrol on two counts of “statutory sodomy”.
The state patrol was asked to investigate the allegations against Boles by the Children’s Division of the Missouri Department of Social Services. McDonald County Sheriff Don Schlessman wasn’t commenting on Monday, but Boles is reported to be on suspension from the sheriff’s department. As of Tuesday morning, no McDonald County charges appear on the Missouri Casenet site, but the case has been turned over to McDonald County Prosecutor Janice Durbin.
So was Jake Boles a molesting bastard before he found Rowan, or is this the aftereffect of the trauma of seeing the results of Chris Collings’ and David Spears’ brutality? No doubt Boles’ defense will contend that he’s been set up. His testimony in the Collings and Spears trials could collapse under the weight of his trashed credibility. Armchair politicians will cry foul and call the victim a liar or worse.
But what if he wasn’t set up? Wouldn’t be the first time a girl was sexually assaulted in McDonald County, that’s for sure. Will the prosecution argue that the damage inflicted on little Rowan acted as a catalyst for the perversion already taken root in Boles’ mind? What most of us would find horrific, did Boles find intriguing, even arousing?
Frankly, this may not have been the first time Boles has offended in this way. I can’t buy that a person would commit a sexual crime without previous proclivities in that direction. So it begs the question: how did Boles know where Rowan’s body was? A lucky guess, based on statements David Spears made to other law enforcement officials? Or is there another reason? No matter how deep or shallow the pit of Boles’ perversion, the fact is that at least one child has allegedly been harmed by him.

This is just mind-bogglingly, freakishly upsetting. How can this be? Was he somehow involved in the whole thing and that’s why he knew to go to that sinkhole? What is the deal here? I don’t think you can claim that the trauma of the case pushed him to this. Healthy, whole people don’t go there.
Damn. Now I am completely skeeved out anew by this case. As if I needed more skeeving on this score….

Funny you should mention it, but there were a few comments in the Neosho Daily News after Rowan’s body was found that suggested that Jake Boles ought to be looked at more closely in connection with Rowan’s case. I’ve heard rumors that he may have other victims, but i have no evidence to back it up.
I have a feeling this case might get a little twistier before it’s all finished.

No actual news stories linked anything besides that Jake Boles is the deputy who found Rowan. But a few commenters at the Neosho Daily News brought up the questions, although they were silenced pretty quickly when Collings and Spears confessed. I definitely remember the comments, although the Daily News no whas those articles removed. As far as I know there’s no evidence that Boles was involved in anything with Rowan directly, but it does raise some questions now that he’s being charged with sexual offenses on another child.
It looks like the Neosho paper is taking a very “sweep this under the rug” approach to Boles’ arrest.

I cannot verify, but I am reading that the girl in question is his step-daughter who he had a fight with and that she has made these types of accusations before against other people. As usual, just rumor, but still.

McDonald county is getting crazy. A couple of years ago my daughters softball coach got 7 years in prison for molesting his 14 teen year old step daughter and she had his baby. This was a really messed up deal, I was told by my wife and daughter that the mom made her keep the baby and also made her talk to this pig when he would call from jail, WTF.
I hope that this does not end up messing up Rowan’s case, because if Chris and David end up walking because of this, I think an old fashion linching would be in order. That’s just what I think.

Morbid I really hope that the rumor turns out to be true. I figure there’s more to this story than meet the eye, because it seems a bit of unusual route for this type of case. I would hate for either Chris or David to be able to use this as reaonable doubt about their guilt in the Rowan case.

Here’s my guess on this — based on nothing. Deputy had already been molesting girls for years. Being the one to find the dead girl brought him face to face with who he had become. He gets all weirded out. But it doesn’t stop him from doing some more of it because his dick is his master.

I hope it doesn’t. One little girl lying about a rape/molestation put a shadow of doubt on the 100s of girls that are telling the truth.
I don’t know how they would be able to use it. There is a huge difference between a 9 year old girl and a 14 year old girl and between molestation/rape and murder. Just because this guy found the body of Rowan Ford doesn’t mean that the 14 year old is any less entitled to justice. Provided of course that the allegations are true.

While I agree with what you are saying, I think we are looking at this from different view points. If you look at the first few responses you can see where it is being questioned as to whether he was involoved in some way with Rowan’s case. I can see where a lawyer would jump on something like this to put doubt about Chris or David being guilty or could it possible be the police officer that found her set them up and then the police got a forced confession. I have no doubt of their guilt but I would hate to think this could be used to help their case.
I agree it always makes it more difficult for those who are really sexually assulted due to false allgegation — and that is not the hope the hope is that this doesn’t affect the Rowan Ford case.
One way or another I feel for this girl if she has been molested or if she has enought issues she would wrongly accuse someone. Either way she really needs help.

takes one to know one – spears and collings confessed, maybe to boles that is why he went to the sink hole… the boys just could not keep it inside themselves any longer and told boles what they had done~ to the one person BOLES they felt understood them.
I wondered how this officer knew to look in that sinkhole. I really believed that he was alone that morning as he stopped on his way to work. I don’t recall anyone mentioned as being there… I had wondered how dangerous it was to go down in that hole and interested me how he managed to carry her and climb out ,,, just assumed we were reading between the lines… that not all details were printed.

Ok, enough rumors and false information. I personally know Jake Boles and here are some facts.
He was not alone when Ford was found. He was with another Deputy who also happens to live in the same geographical area where Ford was found. They knew that the sink hole needed to be checked out because Spears had told the Newton County coroner, Mark Bridges, that it would be a good place to dump a body. I guess maybe his conscience began to wear on him and he wanted somebody to find the girls body?
Boles has been mentally scarred by what he saw that morning. He has nightmares and sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night with that image still in his head. But he won’t tell anybody this because he would be looked at as being weak.
As far as him being indicted…The grand jury heard exactly what the state trooper wanted them to hear. They did NOT hear that this same step-daughter is known within her family as being a manipulative, lying girl. They did NOT hear that fact that this girl falsely accused another guy. They did NOT hear that she and Boles got into an argument about her spending the night with her 18 year old boyfriend prior to these accusations coming out.
Only after this indictment was issued did the trooper bother to speak with family members. And then if they tried to tell them that the girl was a known liar the trooper would say “I don’t want to hear that”. Now, does that sound like an investigator that is seeking the truth? I don’t think so. The state trooper, Jamie Musche, has an attitude that he is somehow better than 99% of the human race ( I know you all know cops like that ) and he will not listen to anybody else’s point of views or remarks.
I just wonder though if the same media coverage will be here when he’s aquitted of these charges??????

and you have proof of any of this how? Of course a child who has been molested is going to be called a liar. Even had the girl made false accusations against another person, it doesn’t negate the fact that there was enough evidence of these two instances of abuse for an indictment. Were you on the grand jury? Did you hear the testimony? If so, I would love to know what was said. If not, then you’re just taking Jake’s word over his stepdaughter’s and that’s all you’re doing.
So you’re saying that Jamie Musche had an obligation to listen to the accused perpetrator’s family and take their word over any evidentiary findings of abuse of a child, and that his investigation was flawed based on your judgement of his personality? A “known liar” to whom? To the people who didn’t want to hear that she might have been abused? All this does is tell me that the family would rather protect their boy Jake than find out if she’s telling the truth and get him help if he needs it.

Grand juries don’t generally hand down indictments based on hearsay. The very charges make it clear that the case isn’t there for forcible rape; that there is evidence “only” of second degree statutory sodomy, meaning that he either did the girl anally or made her blow him and that she was not physically forced or beaten, but was more likely coerced, threatened, or intimidated into participation. If he did do those things, would it be okay with you for him not to be punished?
If Jake Boles is acquitted, I will personally update this article to reflect that. And if he’s convicted, I’ll update to reflect that as well. I appreciate your categorizing us as media; that’s pretty cool.

i just never cease to be amazed that all my hate mail says the same thing “oohhh, you’ll be sorry because MY friend/son/boyfriend/tard is INNACENZE” but nobody ever has any evidence to back it up. All the kids that get hurt are liars, all their accused buddies are great guys with big hearts who would never hurt a kid (until, of course, they do – and then it was someone else’s fault, or the kid fell on the penis or the bathtub, or the guy snapped). All the cops are corrupt and out to get one of their own, everyone knows the kid is a whore, you name it, i get it.
Jake Boles might well be innocent. He really might. And if he is, I have no problem saying so. But investigations aren’t run by one guy, and indictments aren’t handed down by one guy. Unfortunately, it’s more likely that Jake Boles is guilty, whether he ends up being punished or not. I feel really sorry for that girl. It’s hard enough to have the courage to say something – it’s even worse when nobody believes you because of who the perp is.

It sucks when no one believes you – hopefully the 14 year old girl will be o-kay and not treated worse than this prick. As to the trooper, stating “he didn’t want to hear that” well, kudo’s to him. His job is to investigate crime and make arrests based on his investigation. He is not required to listen to their defense or not act because of what the offender had to say. That is for this POS’s attorney to do. Present his defense.
I am glad that the trooper found this girl to be credible – at least one person seems to have believed her. Maybe that will give her some comfort – probably not, though – she has already been betrayed by her mom, saying she is known liar.
Her mom is a bitch – she should believe in her daughter, until it is proven she has lied. Which, I very seriously doubt, will be proven. I suspect, it will be proven that he messed with this girl.
