Shannon Pike Is Not A Suitable Babysitter

Sarasota County, FL - Shannon Calvin Pike, 20, fractured a 3-year-old girl’s skull while she was in his care last last month. The toddler had two skull fractures and bleeding in her skull. Pike told police that the girl fell and hit a dresser while jumping on the bed, and that she “also slipped in the tub”. The medical report said that the child’s injuries were inconsistent with Pike’s story. One skull fracture was on the side of the girl’s head behind her ear, which didn’t jive with his statement of how the girl fell. The child also began vomiting prior to her bath, a clear sign that she had already sustained head trauma before getting into the tub. The toddler told investigators that Pike beat her because she had wet the bed, and that he later hit her in the head again.
The little girl’s mother was using Pike as a babysitter while she went to work, a clear indication that Mom needs to pick better babysitters. Everyone knows a 20 year old guy with a felony record and a couple of civil suits for domestic violence needs to be keeping your kid, yeah? The mom said she became suspicious when she returned home and the girl had several bruises on her back, buttocks and face. Yep, that’d do it. He does look a little nicer on his Myspace, but then it hasn’t been updated since 2005. Pike was arrested Thursday and charged with felony aggravated child abuse. He remained in the Sarasota County jail on FridayFriday reviews
with bail set at $100,000. He’s already on probation for felony criminal mischief, so he’ll probably score a probation violation as well.

OMG, what could this mom have been thinking to let this guy babysit her kid??
As a parent myself, I practically give my sitter the third degree before they even come near my children. This includes speaking to their parents, checking references, etc.

i am not leery of letting males babysit my son. My best friend’s teenage boys babysit my son, and there’s never been a problem. it’s the caliber of the person, not the gender, one should be examining.

I agree to a point. Sometimes the most trusted person can shatter that trust. It would be my guess that you would have to look farther into the person, see how the person reacts with your child. Do they pay extra special attention to your child? Most times, it is not a stranger that sexually assaults your child. It is the trusted friend, someone from the neighborhood or family members who do this to a child and breaks that trust. In most of these cases, the child will not tell on this person because the person doing this tells the child that it was their fault and that the parents will punish the child or threaten in other ways to keep the child quiet.

Hmmmm. Well, it looks like he was on the only one with the child at the time of the abuse. He told a lie that was inconsistent with the injuries. Yep, he’s guilty. I am sure it’s hard accepting that a “friend” could be such a heartless fucking monster.

I was reading up on this and I have one question. Did he really name the child Blaze? I am a Juggalo so I love Blaze the rapper but I do not think I would ever name a child that. That is a name someone gives pets. I am serious, I have never known anyone who named their child Blaze, but I have known cats, dogs, even a bird and a ferret named that. If that wasn’t a Freudian slip nothing was. Also, I did try my hardest to be unbiased but when I tried reading anything the mother of this child beater wrote, my head hurt.
