INDIANAPOLIS — When the boyfriend of Latasha McMorris, 24, walked into room 104 of the EconoLodge Motel around 12:30 am, he found her passed out from drugs, alcohol or both. Unfortunatly for this beauty, instead of lying on top of a pool of vomit she had choked to death on, she just happened to be laying on top of her 2-year-old son, Sheldon Bartley Jr..
The boy was taken to Community East Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. Police are treating the case as a homicide and McMorris was being held on a charge of felony neglect. An autopsy was planned Wednesday to determine what caused Bartley’s death. I am guessing it will show that he died from having a drunken idiot lying on top of him until he suffocated. But that’s just me.
In a real shocker, McMorris has several prior arrests on alcohol-related offenses and was convicted of child neglect in July 2007. Child Protective Services removed McMorris’ children, including Bartley, from her custody when she was convicted. I guess she must have gotten him back. Thank God for that, otherwise the boy may still be alive.

And thank god for the family reunification obsession of the social service system. I think I remember this began because people were upset that babies were being given to adoptive parents of a different racial background than the bio-family. Well, lots of children have really benefitted from being returned to the hapless bio-family that abused them in the first place. (Heavy sarcasm throughout this paragraph.)

I do have one question to the trailer trash – are all people who live in trailers considered trash? or if you are just poor are you called trailer trash? I have seen that statement on many, many threads and just wonder what are the qualifications to be deemed trailer trash?

A lot of people live in trailers and are neat, clean, drug-free, have most of their teeth, and don’t abuse their kids. Those people are not trailer trash.
Trailer trash spend their money on nails and beer but not rent. Personal hygiene and dental care is optional. They fight a lot, usually because they’ve picked a sex partner based on availability and not on moral fiber, compatibility, intelligence, or education. They consider 8 weeks of HVAC school “postgraduate work”. They make meth in their bathtubs and think condoms are for wusses. They shoot their niece’s porn pics next to the Pack ‘N Play.

Foster parents are sometimes no better than the blood parents……there are alot of creeps out there that foster just for the bucks and thrills they get from whoopin’ up on a kid. There are as many foster care horror stories out there as there are parent horror stories. Somehow, a new type of system needs to be in place. Instead of money going towards the weak and helpless abroad, our goverment should be looking in it’s own backyard of tragedy. Hire more QUALIFIED cps workers, ya know, ones that actually have a heart. I wish I had a magic wand and could protect all the children, and abolish all the sadistic adults.

Had the system actually done what they should have, this woman would have never had her child to be able to kill him. I have an ex-sister-in-law that has lost all 3 of her children due to drinking and drugs. One of the babies wound up with a spiral fracture on her upper arm at 11 months old, and Sandra didn’t take her into the hospital until 2 weeks later. Apparently the drugs she was on helped tune out the baby crying. After failing 3 drug tests, the state revoked her parental rights and put the children up for adoption. All 3 of them were adopted by the same family, and are doing beautifully… as for Sandra, she’s pregnant again. too bad the other systems aren’t so strict.

I think two things need to change in our system. One, I think sterilization should be offered for free (men and women)……that would solve alot of problems, not the for the ones that have baby after baby for welfare….but that to could be solved with the #2 solution…if the gov. put a cap on how many kids they would support…say 2 at the max. #3, adoption laws should be more open. More appealing to someone that really doesn’t want their child…and I’m not talking about new born adoption, I’m talking about later, after the child has gotten on the parents last nerve, before the parent kills it, a parent could relinquish their rights, no questions asked. As it stands now, that is child abandonment. That stinks. How many kids could be saved if our laws were just a little different. If these kids that are taken from their parents for abuse were immediately allowed to be adopted, and not chunked into the system that obviously does not work, later to be returned to parents that supposedly cleaned up their act, then maybe we wouldn’t have so many stories to post about. At least not bad stories anyway.

The sad truth is there aren’t enough foster homes to put these kids in. And, the institutional placements available are festering with kids who rape, abuse, and generally emotionally fuck up those poor little kids who are there b/c mommy and daddy were crack heads. And, don’t get me started on the Al Zimmerman’s of the world.
Yes, CPS is fucked up, the world is covered with shetbags, and The System sucks big hairy balls. Those people who want to adopt ANY kid can’t get one to save their lives b/c of all the rules to weed out the shetbags. But what is truly messed up is the fact that WE created “The System†. We did. Not aliens from another planet. All I can say is at least CPS tries, and actually succeeds on occasion.

There was a story here where a brother took his sister’s kids I believe. He and his wife had been fostering them, and when they made moves to adopt they were turned down because…………..he was TOO FAT. I kid you not. It seems like he lost weight,or had a stomache staple or something, and was approved, but Jesus… a family was willing to take these kids no questions asked and they said Sorry, Chubs, can’t help ya.

Well here’s how I feel about the subject…. First off I’d like to say that not of you people have the right to say anything about LaTasha. Why?? Because none of you knew her as a person, the only thing you know about her is what they have reported on the tv and/or radio. LaTasha is my older sister so yes Jr (Sheldon) is my nephew. There is no way in hell that if LaTasha was sober that she would have hurt Jr. She loved him with all of her heart. Accidents happen, and unfortuneately this resulted in the death of my 2yr. nephew. Not only does my sister have to deal with the fact that her 2yr old son is dead, she also has to live everyday of her life knowing that if she would’ve never took that drink that he would still be alive. My family is already going through enough pain and grief as it is and the last thing we need is you alls ingnorant ass comments. Thanks and have a nice ass fucking day….. {R.I.P. Sheldon Jr.}

That drink? as in ONE? WTF lady? Do you think we are all stupid? It takes more than one drink for you to pass out on top of a child and not wake up through his gasping and struggling for breath. More than one drink to comfortably sleep on a kid.
Your family has my condolences, but your sister gets nothing but my disgust and loathing. She was an irresponsible parent and her baby died because of it.

How often was she not drunk? Did she have an alcohol or drug problem? Did she try to get help for it? Is this why the children were removed the first time?
If you really want us to KNOW your sister like you know her, tell us about it. Help me understand how a GOOD person can do something like this. Becasue until then, I am not going to believe it.

Well that tells how closely you pay attention to the news report because if you were listening you would have clearly hear my nephews grandmother (Sandra) state that LaTasha was supposed to be addmitted into rehab on Wednesday so yes obviously she was trying to get help….. and no she was not drunk all the time but thanks for asking. My 6yr old niece and my nephew Sheldon were always well taken care of. And you know who took care of them??? LaTasha did not their dad not anyone else. Yea sure we helped when she needed it but overall she took care of her two kids by herself until July when they were taken away from her. And I know I shouldn’t be on here reading what people are saying, but I know that my sister was always there for her kids untill they were 1st removed from her custody. And I think that you all should know that too not just know what they have posted on your tv screen. I know that what my sister did was wrong….. it was more than wrong because of her drinking she ended up suffocating my nephew and her only son. Because of her drinking I have to wake up daily….. the whole family has to wake up daily knowing that will never hear his laughter, see his glowing smile, or hear his voice ever again.
