He was the one that threw the first punch, but did not take any part in what happened after that. He pled guilty to assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder. He was sentenced to 6 months in jail and 2 years probation. The judge made it pretty clear that he was the least responsible for Jono's death and that his co-defendants who actually caused the injuries resulting in the death would not be so lucky. Judge Yates said that if he at all thought that Casey's punch caused Jono's death, he would not be receiving the sentence he did. For Casey's part in the event, I think it was a fair sentence. Yes, punching someone is wrong and what happened afterwards by Casey's friends was absolutely horrendous, but someone should not go to prison for punching someone in the face. He is not responsible for what his friends did, they will pay their own price for that. From what the judge said today I predict that the rest of the defendants will be doing prison, not jail, time and for what they did, that is probably what is best for society. Former College of the Sequoias quarterback Casey Therriault pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the Jan. 10 death of Jonathan Krystiniak, 21, Monday in a Grand Rapids, Mich. courtroom.

Therriault, a Michigan native who was COS’s backup quarterback in 2007, was charged with second-degree murder for his role in Krystiniak’s death outside of a restaurant in Grand Rapids.
