Tina Richards & Phillip Waller Suck At Parenting

January 29, 2008 at 11:43 am by

Update: 3/5/09-Phillip Waller unexpectedly changed his not guilty plea to guilty on Tuesday and was sentenced to serve 2 years of a 10-year sentence. The remaining 8 years will likely be spent on probation. Credited with time-served, Waller still has to serve about 10-months behind bars.

UPDATE 12/18/08 – Tina Richards has pleaded guilty to the abuse of her son Aiden Waller in January, when he was 10 months old.  Now almost 2, Aiden is severely brain injured and his long term prognosis is not good.  This week, Richards was sentenced to 30 years in prison followed by 10 years on probation.  Convicted earlier this year on a previous abuse case involving Aiden, Tina Richards is already serving a twenty-year sentence for  that crime.  Richards, now 20, will not likely get out of prison until 2038.   Phillip Waller has yet to go to trial, and prosecutors say they are working with the defense to cut a deal for Waller, who knew of the abuse  but did not actively try to stop it.

Tina Richards Phillip Waller Aiden Wallace

Effingham County, GA  (January 29, 2008)  - Ten-month-old Aiden Waller is in critical condition with traumatic brain injuries, facial fractures and full-body bruising thanks to his parents, Tina Richards and Phillip Waller. Richards and Waller are in jail just five weeks after getting their son returned to them by Georgia’s Department of Family and Children Services. Yep, you heard me. This baby is ten months old and had already been removed and returned to the mother due to previous abuse.

Tina Richards was arrested in July 2007 on cruelty to children and battery charges. Police reports show that baby Aiden, who was then only a few months old, had a bruised eye and black and blue marks on both arms. Richards pled guilty in November 2007 to both charges. An Effingham County judge sentenced her to five years probation and $1350 in fines. So what does DCAFS do? They give the baby back. Yeah.

As Tina’s mother Kim Kellam says, ” “I said this is a mistake, she’s going to do it again, this is a big mistake and here we are five weeks later maybe and now he’s fighting for his life.”

According to Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie, Richards was home alone with her son last Monday. At about 3:00 p.m., her neighbor saw her running in the yard holding Aiden. The neighbor ran over to help, but “by then the baby was in bad shape”. The neighbor called 911 and asked them to “hurry, because the baby is about to stop breathing”. According to news sources, Aiden’s gasps for air are audible on the 911 tape. He had dried blood in his nose and was unable to breathe unless held upright when paramedics arrived.

Richards told deputies she was holding her son in the shower when she slipped and fell and landed on the baby. The problem with that story is that the baby was dry. There’s also this: “We recovered a sheet with a onesie, you know what I am talking about the little things babies wear, sewn into a bed sheet. We found yarn which appeared to be used to strap the child’s legs and duct tape.” The duct tape is currently being tested, but authorities believe it was used to cover Aiden’s mouth to muffle his cries.

Kellam, Aiden’s grandmother, says, “”I love my daughter but I hate my daughter,” she said. “There’s no excuse for what she did and if I have anything to do with it she will never see that child again.” Kellam is actually the person who first reported the abuse last July, so good for her. She reports that both her daughter and Phillip Waller were abusing Aiden, and she couldn’t sit back and let it happen. Now, Kellam visits her grandson every morning and reports that his eyes are open and his brain swelling is going down. Aiden remains in critical condition.

Richards remained in Effingham County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, aggravated battery, cruelty to a child in the first degree and cruelty to a child in the second degree. Waller was arrested yesterday and is being held on charges of cruelty to a child and obstruction of justice.

Update 12/18/2008  – Aiden’s grandmother updated her blog with the latest on baby Aiden’s condition and the conviction of his mother, Tina Richards, today. Tina Richards has pleaded guilty to the abuse of her son Aiden Waller in January, when he was 10 months old.

Phillip Waller has yet to go to trial, and prosecutors say they are working with the defense to cut a deal for Waller, who knew of the abuse while he was away at college but did not actively try to stop it.

Abuse? They fucking tortured this baby! They had it all set up, someone had to sew that onesie into the sheet. Fucking bastards. If a person’s own MOTHER thinks you shouldn’t get the baby back, why the hell would DCAFS give the baby back?

She looks really young, I hope when she gets her ass kicked in jail, that the inmates will do the world a favor and rip out her fucking ovaries too.

Why Kathy? Because I am starting to believe that the whole child welfare system is a joke! It has to be a big fucking scam, put together by a large group of people. Let’s pretend like we are protecting children, so that we can just sit on our asses and collect paychecks from the government!

Yeah, I know, sounds ridiculous, but what fucking explanation is there for them allowing child after child after fucking child to be killed?? WHY???

I know what you mean Solange. The child welfare system is not there to protect the rights of children. It is there to protect the rights of the adults. Their main goal is family reunification. Even if it means trusting that the parent can be rehabilitated and “re-unifying” the family over and over again until there is no child alive left to return. It is disgusting.

In their efforts to keep giving these breeders second chances, they take away any chance the innocent children have. It is so obvious, but nothing gets done about it.

Because the people who actually do the work are forced to follow bullshit rules made by people who rarely have to see the consequences of what happens in the real world. Tina’s mother might know that she shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near her child, the CPS workers may know that she shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near her child, but in the end all they can do is voice their opinions to the judge. A judge who’s got to follow precedent set by other judges. Judges who are elected officials. The chances of Tina killing her child when returned to her the first time? Maybe 50/50. The chances of Tima getting a scum-bag lawyer and suing if her child was taken from her “wrongfully”? 100%

According to Kim Kellam (Tina’s mother), DCAFS wouldn’t even return her calls. There is something seriously wrong when the grandmother is tearing her hair out trying to get help for that baby and they blow her off.

Tina Richards went to the trouble of SEWING the onesie to the crib sheet! If that’s not premeditated child abuse, I dunno what is. They were tying his limbs down with yarn. The whole thing is nauseating.

So i bet they have Myspaces. brb!

Interestingly, the article calls these two the baby’s parents. But the baby’s last name is Wallace, the father’s is Waller, and the mother’s is Richards. Is one of the Waller/Wallace names a typo, or is this not the bio father? Just wondering. Not that it really matters, as it sounds like mom was doing at LEAST her fair share of the abuse, if not all of it.

This one made me cry. Something about the little onesie sewn to the sheet and the duct tape…

Sounds like Grandma loves this baby and has been all over this. Makes you wonder how she raised such a monster.

This situation disturbs me on so many levels. The most upsetting is it could have been prevented if DCAFS would have listened to the grandma. When a mother says I love my child but I know she is going to harm this child, isn’t that enough? So what is the protocol three strikes your out? The torture device *sick* !

I would LOVE to know who their DCAFS case worker is and keep sending him/her copies of this article, leaving them on their car windshield, giving them to co-workers, etc. etc. etc. How do these people sleep at night?

Why can we not just take child abusers like this, along with the sexual predator, and just shoot them? Seriously. Is there any person that can come up with one, non religious reason why any of these types of people deserve to share the same air with the rest of us? Wouldn’t the best way to 100 percent protect society from having people like this repeat their actions, or being a drain on their community, is by removing them from society? Permanently?

    Just wondering.

That baby is beautiful. Tears are streaming down my face, how?, why?, would you bite a baby all over? Like this is going to help? Poor baby.

I hate the violence, the horridness of these tragic events, but yeah, she deserves the same treatment she gave that baby. FUCKING BITCH

Thank god this baby has what sounds like a very vigilant and caring grandmother, maybe he has a chance at life with her batting for him. The mother definitely struck out.

Religion has nothing to do with it. I believe in and love our God in heaven, dearly. I have read the King James Version of the Bible, my whole life.

THERE IS NOT ANY REASON THESE PEOPLE NEED TO LIVE!

If there were a non-religious reason for not killing them it would be — they dished it out lets see how long the bastards can take it. Short of wanting to revisit every mean thing they have done onto them, I can not think of one reason for them to live.

I always considered myself basically humane — but honestly, I could torture and torture them (like the movie says, “…….I’ll make this last three weeks. I’ll give you a blood transfusion, if I have too.” – movie “Payback”) That egg donor and Spears, Collins, and on and on. I honestly believe I could enjoy hurting them as much as eating a big fat piece of warm chocolate.

Now, I feel all shitty about myself, because I know I could and would hurt them badly, for a long time, if I could get to them. I don’t feel bad in the fact they deserve it – I feel bad because I want to do it sooooo bad. What kind of person am I? other than one who loves kids and would protect them or punish people that hurt them. So what else does that make me? Sometimes it is scary to know your own heart……..

Like stated before, she looks really young. She was probably eating up all the attention she was getting from her peeps and lets not forget the presents and shopping and it all be new and a big deal.

Then reality, set in. Babies are cute as long as you can give them back later. Every day crying and total dependence on her and cutting into her social life, you name it. I bet she doesn’t have a better reason than I listed, unless she just states, “I AM A SICK BITCH!” Now that I would believe and say it has more validity than my reasons.

I can not get past the planned torture and mistreatment of this poor baby.

I would love to drive down there and personally thank the judge and social worker for their fine decision making skills. They should have to help with this babies recovery. I pray they will give the baby to its grandmother now.

I really don’t know if the dad, Phillip, deserves hell yet. It looks like he’s mostly been an absentee parent, off at college but still keeping up with his girlfriend and their son. But if he did really know what was happening, and he really did participate, then hell it is and the sooner the better.

This is one case where I’d love to hear from the families and friends on both sides, because I dunno if we’re getting the whole story. Did Tina start using meth or something? This is meth-level child abuse, right here.

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) – There’s new information about the mother and father who are in jail accused of abusing their young son. 10-month-old Aiden Waller was rushed to Memorial University Medical Center last week with head injuries and bruises all over his body. He remains in critical condition.

WTOC has learned that Aiden’s parents could both be facing some serious prison time. This morning, an Effingham County judge decided there is enough evidence against Aiden’s father, Phillip Waller, to send the case to Superior Court. Phillip Waller is now awaiting a grand jury indictment. The judge also denied bond.

Aiden’s mother, Tina Richards, is also in jail without bond and awaiting a grand jury’s decision. She will have a probation revocation hearing on February 11. Richards plead guilty last year for abusing Aiden and was sentenced to five years probation under Georgia’s First Offender Act.

Today, authorities said since Richards is accused of abusing Aiden again, the First Offender Act could be thrown out and she then would face up to 20 years in prison, just for abusing Aiden last year. Richards is facing life in jail on the new charges.

Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies said Richards tied Aiden up, duct taped him and abused him. Doctors are still fighting to save the baby boy. Aiden has been in the hospital for eight days now. His brain is swollen and he’s on life support.

Oh, I agree. It’s great fun until the baby arrives and you learn you can’t pull its battery pack out and go to a party — as my cousin did when she was part of that “baby doll for a weekend” thing they do at high school. That’s the best program, I think it sobers a lot of young ladies up about babies.

I hate these “parents” for doing this to a baby. And it sounds as if Death might be a tender friend to this poor little one, too. Brain damage, life support — will the child ever be normal after this?

I had my first child at 20. Just a baby myself. I was so in love with him (still am!) and never would have hurt him. EVER. I don’t get it. You have a baby and you have to take care of that baby. That is your job, your purpose in life. Not to fuck up and abuse the baby. Someone told me right after my son was born, “From now on you will always be somebody’s mother.” That stuck with me, I wanted to be sure that when my son looked back over the years he would be proud to have me for a mother. I made mistakes (and will continue to make mistakes), we all do, but good mothers learn from thier mistakes and walk away and breathe for a minute when it gets too tough or you get to angry.

Your children are so lucky to have a mother who cares, who even when young understood that life was now different forever. What you are building is a “road of the loving heart.” Each day makes the road a little longer, and when you and your kids look back over it, they will see all the love that tried to make it smooth and beautiful.

I can’t imagine what happened with this couple — 10 months and they are tying up the child and taping his mouth so they can abuse him more freely. What were they getting out of this? Some kind of bonding? The man’s myspace talks about how he treated women like candy and the woman straightened him out. This is what he’s like when his head is on straight? And she looks like a dead elf in this photo. The baby laughing, trying hard to be happy in this world. It’s heartbreaking.

I know this DFCS office and will tell you this is not the first time this has happened and actually 2 workers were suspended (yes suspended) for not fully investigating another incident and those workers still work for this department. I also know what power hungry jerks they are and how they are known to harrass those that are doing well and not abusing and yet turn their backs on those that are abusing. I hope the whole department gets fired over this. These are articles from the old incident in 2000

AB, thanks for posting those posts. I’m on dial up and it takes forever to get to a myspace page.

I would have loved to have that baby — and you all know that I’m not sure of my abilities in this arena. But to have been able to save that little charmer from the abuse … if only the Grandmother had had a chance to keep the child.

I’ve heard of this phenomenon before and it makes no sense to me. To me it’s just like when police will go to great lengths convict “somebody” for a crime even when it’s not the right person and they know it. How can this be and what purpose does it serve??? Ignoring real abusers and convicting the wrong people both mean that the “right” people aren’t being dealt with and the injustices go on and on. Why?

But this doesn’t explain why the DFCS workers would “harrass those that are doing well and not abusing and yet turn their backs on those that are abusing.” It’s this sort of thing that I can’t make sense of.

    CATLADY,
I’m with you on this one,.it makes no sense. I am an ER RN, therefore a mandated reporter and have unfortunately been involved in several cases investigated by our local DFS. I do understand that these people are over worked, under paid, and in my opinion under educated. I understand that they can’t be everywhere all the time. I understand how certain cases can slip by them. But for heaven’s sake, when you know a parent has injured a child,.and not just one shake or an over zealous spanking, but actually beating a child, burning him, strangling him,.how does that person ever get a child back?

Then I see soooo many cases where parents are fighting over children, saying horrible things about the other parent,..often all that is needed is a quick investigation, remind these parents that they are adults, who need to remember the child is what is important. I’ve seen so many cases where children are removed from homes, placed in DFS custody, put into horrible homes way more dysfunctional than their own, and left there for months while DFS “investigates”, then returned home with no charges filed against anyone. What does that do to a child? Those of you who are parents, can you imagine someone taking your 4yr old, placing him/her in a home with strangers, with children who have been abused, on drugs, etc, leaving that child in this environment for months! I can’t imagine what my girls would go through!
I think DFS workers sometimes get on this power trip, they take these kids because they can, then the system takes over, takes way too long and end up traumatizing a poor innocent child and the family. Then when something really horrible happens, the system again fails us, trying to keep a family together, “parents have rights” blah blah blah. they really don’t seem to understand about the rights of a child to be kept safe.
One of my coworkers (an RN) was criminally charged for not reporting a child’s injuries. The child was already in DFS custody, with a family who had several children from DFS. The injuries were explained as previous injuries, that he had already been treated for, while he was in custody of his Mom. We even had records of the previous treatment, and as usual DFS was aware and even in the ER during this visit. This child was eventually killed by his DFS “family”. The charges against this nurse were eventually dropped,.after more than $100,000 in legal fees and of course this nurse no longer works as an RN. Sorry for the rant,…it just seems the system is so screwed up. I could go on for hours (I won’t :) ) about all the inconsistencies and seemingly blatant abuse of power. I don’t know what the answer is, short of raising our own children to be better parents. Something has to be done to stop this!

You and I have worked as nurses in the same city, MOgal :) I know this case, and I was so glad I was an agency hack when that went down – because that hospital didn’t use agency nurses at that time, so I was way, wayyyy far away. But nurses (and there are a lot of us here!) are particularly susceptible, liability-wise, to abuse cases. If we see it or even think we see it, we have to report or we are screwed. In the case you mention, I think that nurse was used as a scapegoat by DFS and prosecutors.

I have called DFS so many times I’ve lost count. And I will do it without hesitation. But the foster care system is jacked.

I think i’ll make a thread about this in the forums and we can vent there. That way it doesn’t get lost in the front page rotation :)

This one has really been bugging me since I first read it and other than echoing everyone else on how this just breaks my heart, I do have one comment that for some reason I have decided I need to throw out there. Yes, Grandma did the right thing by reporting it and following up and telling them her daughter would hurt the child again. But. I guess to me it makes me think of the article Morbid put up questioning what, if anything, we would do in that situation and that makes me think of this. Daughter’s already been arrested for abuse, they give baby back to her, Mom is uneasy, trying to protect the child and getting no response..you know what? If that were me, my mom would have taken that baby from me herself and answered DSS’s questions later. So yes, Mom did the right thing by trying to intervene and save her grandchild, but she could have done more.

I’m not knocking her at all, she’s one of the few we’ve seen who has tried to do something to protect the child but it just keeps hitting my heart that more could have been done. Maybe it’s an old school southern thing, or the fear of my parents I was raised with (not death fear but respect fear the way kids used to be raised), I don’t know – but just bcs DSS doesn’t call you back doesn’t mean you let it go and think ‘Oh well, I tried. Nothing I can do now.’ I call bullshit. Even if I was kicking and screaming, Mama would have snatched that youngun from me and told me I could have him back when I cleaned my shit up.

    Thanks for letting me rant.

The system is fucked up, not just CPS/DSS, but the criminal justice system as a whole. If the Grandmother had taken the child from the home without consent she would have been arrested. Then the one person the child had in it’s corner would have looked bad in the eyes of the law.
I mentioned before that one of my friends works for CPS, he’s a father of two great kids himself and takes his job very seriously. It tears him up inside when he’s got to take a child from it’s home, it tears him up even more when he suspects he should be removing a child but his hands are tied by the rules. Maybe he’s an exception to the rule, I’d like to believe there are others out there like him but, all we seem to hear about are the ones who don’t give a shit or abuse their jobs. Another serious problem is the limited number of options available to a child who has been removed. People don’t exactly line up to take in abused children, especially troubled teens. Sure it tugs our heart strings to see images and hear about abuse, but how many of us have the time, resources, or most importantly motivation to step up to the plate and try to make a difference?
Having said all that, the only reason I can think of not to take these two ‘parents’ out and shoot them is that shooting would be waaaay to quick a death for them. *evil grin*

… but just bcs DSS doesn’t call you back doesn’t mean you let it go and think ‘Oh well, I tried. Nothing I can do now.’ I call bullshit. Even if I was kicking and screaming, Mama would have snatched that youngun from me and told me I could have him back when I cleaned my shit up.

I’ve heard of this phenomenon before and it makes no sense to me. To me it’s just like when police will go to great lengths convict “somebody” for a crime even when it’s not the right person and they know it. How can this be and what purpose does it serve??? Ignoring real abusers and convicting the wrong people both mean that the “right” people aren’t being dealt with and the injustices go on and on. Why?

I’ll hazard a guess, based on nothing more than observing human nature. I’ll bet the bad parents scare the bejeezus out of the case workers. They tell them straight out to go to hell and intimidate them. The good parents are vulnerable — they desperately fear the power of the case workers — so they are the ones that get plain old bullied. Bullies zero in on the vulnerable and avoid those who challenge them. Bad case workers have to something with their workday — why not enjoy themselves picking on the scared families? It gives them something to write down in their work report and is fun, too.

Harsh as it sounds, I can’t help but hope this child doesn’t make it. To be thrust into life with not only brain damage, but with whatever imprinting those monsters inflicted on him, ugh. I know that the human spirit can overcome horrible adversity, but it doesn’t, always.

I’m afraid I have to disagree with you on this one. My twins were born 2 and 1/2 months early and my son had a bleed in his brain that wasn’t discovered until he was 4 months old. CPS tried to say it was shaken baby syndrome and took our kids from us. They tried to say my son would have lasting brain damage and they found doctors who lied and manipulated the truth for them. CPS claimed my child would have mental retardation, would”develop” cerebral palsy, and never live a normal life. Well, we won that fight and got our children returned to us and I’m happy to say that my son is perfectly normal and has met all his developmental milestones. He is walking, talking, and he is a wonderful child, and both children are very well loved and taken care of. Sometimes doctors are wrong.

By the way, neither of my children have ever been shaken, we love them and would never harm them and we proved it in court. CPS got carried away and then they wouldn’t admit they were wrong.
This mother is a piece of shit though, and I hope they do take her child away forever. Thanks for letting me rant.

Mom of Twins, you know I knew of a family that the same thing happened. I am so glad that things worked out for your family.

I know someone that was investigated by DFCS and they were written up for the darndest things… one was a spider in their yard, kids toys in living room, then lied in a report that they talked alone with kids, which never happened……. there to tear good families apart and there to keep abusive families together. What is up with that.

Thank you, you know it was really hard because they wouldn’t listen to us or even look at the medical evidence. It’s like they couldn’t admit to being wrong, even though they knew they were. Our caseworker even told us she knew we didn’t do anything, but we still had to go to court and now we owe thousands of dollars in legal fees. Sometimes the system really sucks. They fail the children who really need them and waste valuable time and resources on innocent people.

    momoftwins,
I’m sorry you had to endure this kind of treatment. Having your children placed out of your home most have been unbearable! Now having to pay legal fees is like a slap in the face. I’m sure your just happy to have your children. I’m glad your son is okay! I commend you on your attitude you don’t seem jaded, just happy to be with your babies!

Why is this happening children taken from good homes and left in abusive ones. This is obviously wrong is anything in the works to change this. Maybe assigning cases jointly for more than one individuals insight would help.

I have read a lot of stories that have been shockingly disturbing but this one eats me up! I hate that this adorable child is lying in a hospital bed in a grave situation due to the negligence of a system put in place to protect him!

Perhaps it has to do with my observation that generally the people who are calling CPS and filing reports about the innocent parents are the ones who are the guiltiest of neglecting and abusing their own.

What makes it even worse is that happens A LOT!!! Our lawyer told us that usually the people who are accused can’t afford a decent lawyer, so they get stuck with the public defenders, and then there is no one to help them. We were so fortunate that our families came and helped us, and we had a great lawyer, otherwise, who knows what could have happened… did you know CPS gets money for adopting out children?

Adoption agencies are usually non profit. But of course, non-profits have employees, just like regualr businesses. I guess I should say adoption is a business. It is in their best interest to stay in business.

A social worker will not get any “bonus” for the number of kids that are adopted out or anything like that. The state just gives them more funds in their budgets I think.

You also have to understand, I support this. Most children that are available for adoption through CPS are “damaged goods.” They may have severe physical and emotional problems due to abuse or neglect. It isn’t very often that CPS will have a healthy baby up available for adoption. Unfortunately, the fact that there are so many out there that need homes, the standard of family they give these children may be lowered.

How sad to watch the video. And in almost every picture of the poor Aiden on there he has bruising around one eye or the other.

How do these people live with themselves? What goes so wrong in your life to enable you to hurt your own?

Many accusations of abuse or neglect are false. False accusations can come from anonymous callers, doctors, nurses, neighbors, school teachers, or even the social workers themselves. People who are falsely accused and have their children taken are devastated, and need legal information and social support. Fight CPS helps with both those needs.

A large percentage of the young parents falsely accused of child abuse or neglect are impoverished, and must rely on court appointed attorneys for representation in juvenile court settings. These court appointed attorneys are notorious for doing almost nothing to help their CPS clients. They seem like they’re there to guide people through the court process, but don’t provide any type of aggressive defense. So my site, Fight CPS, fills in the gap by showing people how to provide their own evidence and legal paperwork.

When parents are sent to juvenile court they are denied constitutional rights such as the right to a jury trial, the right to a public trial, and the right to be confronted by their accusers. Yet they stand to lose their children, one of the saddest and most heartrending losses know to humankind. This lack of constitutional safeguards leaves child detention hearings open to gross injustices, the like of which few people believe could happen in America – unless they’ve been through it.
Federal statistics show that children in foster homes are about ten times more likely to be abused sexually, physically, emotionally, and mentally than children in their natural family homes. They are even more likely to be killed. A recent study concluded that foster children are more likely to have teen pregnancies and to become juvenile delinquents. The study said that children are better off when left with their natural families, even if those families have severe problems.

Social work should be a process of helping families resolve and recover from problems, not a process of tearing families apart forever and traumatizing children for life. This imbalance in the social work profession has been caused by federal legislation that gives financial incentives in the form of federal funding and social security reimbursements when children are torn from their homes and placed in foster homes.

I’m for children who need a home being put through adoption services. I agree a child who may be damaged goods or come from neglectful homes need these types of services. My problem is with the possibility of children being removed for this “funding” from a good home. I believe CPS is corrupt in many ways. I’m sure there are social workers who use proper protocol and fight for the rights of families and children. Many articles and different situations have made it apparent the system is flawed. This hurts innocent families and abused children. I just want to see the right thing done for each child and family on an individual basis.
I’m all for incentives, but this is part of there job, a bonus should not be the motivation to do the right thing! On the fight CPS website Senator Nancy Schaefer states:
“The Adoption and the Safe Families Act, set in motion by President Bill Clinton, offered cash “bonuses” to the states for every child they adopted out of foster care. In order to receive the “adoption incentive bonuses” local child protective services need more children. They must have merchandise (children) that sell and you must have plenty of them so the buyer can choose. Some counties are known to give a $4,000 bonus for each child adopted and an additional $2,000 for a “special needs” child. Employees work to keep the federal dollars flowing; ”

I’m just really feeling bad about these people who are let down by a system put in place to protect them.

Did you all notice on Aiden’s myspace in the pic section, that “mommy” dressed him up like a football player for Halloween to disguise the dark bruises under both eyes?! So sad!

Also, another question – why are there so many nurses on DD (including myself)? A proclivity for couches? Hardened to sick stories? or ??????

Who do the bonuses go to? Do the social workers get these bonuses? I know we would have received $2000 from the state if my daughter had been special needs, but needless to say that would have gone toward the actual expense of adoption and any medical care she required.

As an adoptive mother who researched going thru Social services for a child, I found that their main goal is reunification. Children are not immediately made available for adoption. Parents have a certain amount of time to get their shit together, then their rights have to be terminated in the courts and then all other biological family is given “first dibs” on adopting them.

Unless the parents give up their rights outright, you can’t take a baby into your home and be secure with the fact that someone is going to come and pull the rug out from right under you. I’ve had it happen to many a friend in the same boat as me.

Now we get into a gray area. Yes, this is what they say their goal is, and many times that is correct. However, I came to see that sometimes CPS makes it nearly impossible to satisfy all their demands in the time allotted. I’m not trying to play Devil’s advocate. I’m just saying that maybe the system is corrupt, and it shouldn’t be a huge surprise, considering that it is a government program. I don’t know, maybe you have to live through an experience with them to open your eyes.

I don’t really know how the funding is applied. My impression is to the agency as a whole not to the social worker (at least I would hope not). I think they are saying the abuse of this funding comes from higher ups pushing for the workers to get this funding. I’m really not sure, but it seems however they have devised the incentive it has potential for abuse.

I am an adoptive parent of what you called “damaged goods”. I resent my kids being called that as they are loving and are human beings and only know what they have been tought and what they have experienced. Yes, they have special needs, I deal with bi-polar, seizures, asthma. Now when I took these in, I was told different and I feel that they did that so they can get more bonus and funding. (DFCS is known to attach many initials to the kids, which a lot do not have (ODD, ADHD, ADD, RAD, etc. so they can keep them drugged up). I look at it in a way that I was chosen to be these kids parents and I am blessed. Yes its hard to parent these kids at times, but you take one day at a time and you love them and never give up, as that is what they are use to. And yes, because my kids are special needs and adopted through the evil services, I am a target of many investigations. I pull through and move on, but I despise that my kids are fine and we do the best we can, but are targets of the abuse from the evil services.

This is why I put the words “damaged goods” in quotations. Please don’t go looking for offense where there is none intended. There are far more special needs situations than just medically diagnosable illnesses. Most of these problems can be prevented by keeping these children away from their abusive biological parents and foster homes.

Adoption is a business. Children are the merchandise. Special needs children are considered “damaged goods” and are harder to adopt out. Most children available for adoption through CPS are in one way or another special needs. The more they can give permanent loving families to, the better. They deserve the funding for this.

Now, anyone who takes advantage of any state funded social service will have more contact with government agencies and will be scrutinized closely. It is the nature of their business. Biological children, adopted children, special needs or not.

I have very good friends who adopted a brother/sister pair from Texas almost 6 years ago. The biggest thing they complained of with these two was their resistance to authority. However, as I understood the situation, they had been shuffled from foster home to foster home until the bio mom signed away her rights and gave them to the state. By then…and these kids were 2 and 3 at the time, they simply did not know who Mommy and Daddy were. When I met the little girl, she asked me if she was going to go home with me. Since the children were adopted out to an out of state couple…the requirements were very strict. They had to have someone inspect their home unannounced more than once and make several visits to Texas to see the children before they were finally allowed to bring them home. It really saddens me to see how brutally investigative a government agency can be in some cases and how blind in others. There need to be some across the boards standards.

No offense taken. I understand what you were getting at. The older kids are just forgotten and slip through the cracks and then at 18 they are put on the streets as they age out of the system.

With us, when an investigation gets started they have to get special investigator from a few counties away, due to the fact that we have fought them tooth and nail and taken them to court and won.

Also, another question – why are there so many nurses on DD (including myself)? A proclivity for couches? Hardened to sick stories? or ??????

I’ve wondered that myself. I thing the majority of us have seen a lot, or maybe we’re just a nosier bunch, could be the “angel of mercy” thingy or our deep hearts of compassion. naaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh Just nosy, probably. ;)

OK, one last post before taking a break for mental health.

I did hear from someone close to Aiden that he is improving. The swelling of his little brain is going down and his seizures have gone from minutes to seconds in duration. He also has opened his eyes. Pray, send vibes, chant, worship the couch – do what you do to help this innocent victim.

Just signed the petition for Little Aiden and included a nice rant as to why the judge should take it upon himself to protect this child.

I hope more of my fellow posters will click on the link provided in # 107 and sign the petition. Please. :) Rants optional, please just sign the damn petition.

We are always saying “what can we do?” – well here is one example. Thanks to my fellow posters in advance, as I know some of you will go and sign, just as I did.

I hope Aiden’s condition continues to improve! It is nice to hear something positive in this sad situation. I am praying for him :)

According to the person that I am communicating with who is close to Aiden’s family, the DFACS has cut off the giving of information even to close family members who are calling from out of state/not local. So, I am not sure how many up-dates will be forthcoming. I will share anything I learn. Aiden has been progressing and the brain of a little one can recover remarkably. Let’s hope, pray, send vibes, worshop the couch, etc. and help heal this little guy. BTW, I read that if you were to listen to the 911 tape, you could hear Aiden fighting for every breath. So horrible. I wish I could wrap my arms around him and tell him that love and good people exist.

AB thanks for the information. The prayer vigil at the Courthouse, is that Saturday night also or just tonight. I missed tonights.

Does anyone know who the case workers are in this matter.

  • ab

I do not know about the prayer vigil being tomorrow as well. I put the link for Aiden’s page above and it has events in the blog section.

I also read on that page (and of course can not verify) that Tina is PREGNANT!

    Update on Aiden’s condition:

    February 4, 2008 – Monday

    the LATEST on AIDEN…..

The last “news” we heard about Aiden was that his brain swelling is continuing to go down(Praise GOD) yet he’s still sedated and still is sensitive to the touch and voice. I say sensitive because its vital at this point for him to remain unstimulated. It helps with his healing process. That sounds pretty rough, as Im sure it is but then the best news so far….they have REDUCED his MEDICINE INTAKE!!!!! (another PRAISE GOD!!!) Isnt that great? Keep the prayers coming….thanxx for all your support guys & girls…..Just keep praying. Our Miracle will come through….

****this is a quote from the article above listed. Its a interesting commentary.******

“Effingham County Superior Court Judge F. Gates Peed heard the first case of child abuse against Aiden’s mother. In November, the judge sentenced her to probation and ordered her to attend parenting classes.

Did she show up? If so, it appears she didn’t learn anything.

A family member also said the mother was given the option at sentencing of placing the child in foster care, but she refused.

    If so, that’s outrageous.

A parent who’s convicted of child abuse should not be allowed to dictate what happens to a child. Judges must not permit it.

Georgia is supposed to have a safety net for babies and children. If one exists, it didn’t help a baby in Guyton.”

    February 7, 2008 – Thursday

    Aiden..02*07*08
    Category: Life

As of yesterday, Aiden was still progressing. His brain swelling is continuously going down. They project him being in there for a minimal of 1-3 more months. They DO believe he will pull through this but as far as long term effects, still unsure. But he is now recognizing baby cries (from the baby in the room next to him) and when Steve(Tina’s dad) walks in the room, he opens his eyes and looks around….following Steve around with his eyes…. GREAT NEWS!! KEEP PRAYING!!!

    RAISING AWARENESS FOR AIDEN
    Category: Life

As you all know Aiden Waller is still in ICU but doing much better. This amazing little boy has been through so much already in the short 10 months he has been here on Earth. We at JLB Bags and more would like to help this amazing little boy and his future care givers out. So during the months of February and March 2008 every diaper bag that is sold $5 will go into the Aiden Waller trust fund.

Our goal is 100 diaper bags within these two months which will equal $500 that will help this family out with not only medical bills but his personal needs in the future, such as diapers, food and clothes. A running log will be posted on JLB bags and more’s Myspace page of all orders during February and March. So please check out the site below and keep Aiden in your prayers

All the child abuse stories are so tragic but, for whatever reason, this one REALLY got me. I plan to follow Aiden’s progress for all of us on DD and hopefully, I will be able to continue to spread good news (for a change). If the courts/DFACS even hint at letting the little guy back with the parents (whenever they get out), I am flying out there from Cali and putting up a hell of a fight for him!

This a comment off another blog about the case. Who knows how much truth there is in it:

I’m from this girl’s area and it’s quite the news story every day. And just the other day, the father was also arrested because of Tina’s mother. Apparently, she told police that Philip (the father of Aiden) knew about it and also contributed. But she hasn’t told anyone how Aiden has been taken away because of her. But now Philip is in jail and it’s complete nonsense. Philip worked two jobs to support Tina and his child and came home when Aiden was asleep and left when he was asleep. He was home for a few hours if that. Tina’s friends were over more than Philip. Philip used to be a huge partier but after Aiden was born, he stopped. He didn’t have the time to with two jobs. Well, Aiden is still on life-support and Philip has been at that hospital all day, every day since this has happened, and until the police came to arrest him as he sat by his son’s bedside. (Or looking through the glass, I’m not sure.) He resisted, naturally. And now he’s sitting in jail because his crazy girlfriend hid the abuse. Yes, I’m sure he looked in the crib, where Aiden’s onesie was sewed to the mattress, but there was probably a blanket over him or maybe it was sewed down inconspiciously. I just know, Tina and her mom are crazy and THOSE two should be the ones in jail.

(PS: I have never had a personal relationship with either, but I know both and I know tons of people who are personally involved in their lives. And everyone says the same story, even people who don’t know each other but know Philip and Tina.)

Why does Tina’s mom need to be in jail if she is the one that reported the first abuse. Its my understanding that her mom did not want Aiden returned in the first place. I also heard that Phillip was 8 hours away, was he here or in TN. Rumors all fly, but you wonder how much of what you her and read is the truth. By the way I am in Effingham too.

    Aiden Updates!
    Category: Life

DFACS, once again, is stepping in and saying that we are no longer allowed to say anything about Aiden’s medical state, and are trying to get us to take down his webpage…they are threatening to SUE us! This is getting very rediculous, but you know what? I don’t care what they say, I will NOT stop, until JUSTICE IS SERVED! This is not fair to ANYONE, especially Aiden, and those who are concerned about him…we LOVE him, and are going to make his voice be heard, and FIGHT for HIS rights! I am going to protest DFACS until they pass a new law against giving children back to their parents! We have to PREVENT child abuse from happening to anymore children! I also got word today that Aiden may be blind…and do you know WHY? Because DFACS gave him BACK to his mother!!! I am infuriated!!!

*HEALTH UPDATE* MONDAY, February 11th – I was told today that Aiden will still be in the hospital for AT LEAST another month, just so they can monitor him, give him therapy, and to be sure that he doesn’t relaps…he is still doing wonderful, but he does still have a feeding tube, because he has “forgotten” how to eat, and is having touble swallowing…he also has not attempted to crawl or pull-up, they are not sure if it is due to actual brain damage or if he is just still in the process of healing, but they are almost certain that with time, he will more than likely grow up to lead a fairly normal life…so, KEEP PRAYING! It’s not over yet! His long journey to recovery and LIFE is just beginning…(PRAY FOR ME TO HAVE STREGNTH, COMFORT, PATIENCE, AND UNDERSTANDING & FORGIVENESS, TOO, PLEASE!)

Baby Aiden Off Life Support, Jailed Mother Expecting

The 10-month-old is breathing on his own, but still needs an IV and feeding tube.

“It’s going to be an uphill battle, but it sounds like he is doing good,” says Joyce Schottel, Aiden’s paternal grandmother.

She checks on him each day by phone.
Schottel lives in Tennessee, but says her heart is now in a Georgia hospital.

“What plays in my mind all day, 24 hours a day, is the words he couldn’t speak. ‘Mommy, you’re hurting me. Please stop.’ That’s what plays in my mind as a grandmother,” Schottel says.

Her son Phillip and his girlfriend Tina Richards are both behind bars. Effingham County Sheriff’s deputies believe the baby was tied up, duct taped and abused.

“If they are proven guilty, they are exactly where they are supposed to be.”

Joyce confirms Aiden’s mother is pregnant.
“I don’t think Tina should be able to keep the baby. I think that baby should be put up for adoption. I don’t think she should have any child whatsoever. My main concern is that Aiden never has to deal with any kind of pain for the rest of his life, and that he is totally protected from any family member that could hurt him,” adds Schottel.

Last month’s arrest was the second time Richards has been charged with abuse.
The first happened in July. A judge sentenced her to probation.
A hearing to revoke that punishment was supposed to happen Monday.
But Effingham County Court clerks tell NEWS 3 it was continued. No new date has been set yet.

    *AIDEN UPDATE*
    Tuesday, February 19, 2008

    Body: from moi-momma (cafemom.com) on Feb. 19, 2008 at 4:06 PM:
I know a lady from Kelseys Purpose that brought him a bear this past week. She is a very nice woman who got the chance to see him. She is an amazing woman and I wished that I could have been with her when she brought him his bear. This is what she wrote to me:

“BABY AIDEN- Well, I just got back from my visit with Aiden. I went with the intention of just giving the bear to the family, but no one was there except his nurse and a babysitter from a health services agency. To my surprise they let me see baby Aiden, I hope his family will not mind. He has 4 allowed vistors (maternal side). I told them where I was from and who I represented “Kelsey’s purpose”. He looks amazing considering everything he has been through. The nurse said he was a little fussing today because he is teething and he has gas from the feeding tube. He has a tube in the top of his head for his head injury and for IV fluids. He also, has a feeding tube in the right side of his stomach for meds. and feedings. I got to change his diaper, and I sang to him. He would just be still and listen. He is a very sweet little boy. The nurse feed him while I was there. I have to tell you he loves his babysitter her name is Lesile. He still does not like to be held-they think it has to do with the neurological effects from the abuse, and I’m sure it does but his color looks good. He keeps his hands clenched and by his side, but his feet are just kicking away. I hope his family will see the bear from KP and when they have time come on our site. I will be calling Memorial monday to see if I can become a volunteer to be a babysitter for Aiden.”

Hearing in Baby Aiden Abuse Case on Hold

SPRINGFIELD, GA (WTOC) – Tina Richards, the mother of Aiden Waller who was hospitalized in January after being beaten, was expected to have a probation revocation hearing this morning at 9am at the Effingham County Courthouse. The court delayed the hearing because Richards, who is pregnant, began having contractions.

We learned last month Richards was pregnant. Today, we learned she’s nine months pregnant. Sheriff Jimmy McDuffie tells WTOC that if she does not give birth by Monday, authorities plan to induce labor.

Her child would become a ward of the state.

We’re waiting to hear whether the probation revocation hearing will take place today. A judge will decide whether to revoke her probation from a July, 2007, child abuse conviction involving Aiden, because she’s accused of reoffending in January, when Aiden was hospitalized.

If her probation is revoked, she’s facing up to 20 years in prison on the 2007 conviction. She has not yet been formally indicted in the 2008 case, in which Aiden was critically injured.

Aiden is still at Memorial University Medical Center, where at last report he was breathing on his own and being bottle fed.

WTOC has a crew standing by in Springfield and will have the latest as it becomes available.

Tina Richards, the Effingham County mother in prison for abusing Baby Aiden, has given birth to another son.

Authorities said Richards gave birth naturally last night. Over the weekend, deputies took Richards to the Metro State Prison in Atlanta. On Thursday a judge sentenced her to 21 years in prison for abusing her 11-month-old son Aiden. See: Baby Aiden’s Mother Sentenced to 21 Years for Child Abuse.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections, because Richards is a convicted child abuser, her newborn son was immediately taken away from her. The baby is now in the state’s custody.

I’m so happy we finally have a conviction for this bitch. I’m glad they gave her 21 years, instead of a slap on the hand.

My only comfort is, she will get more time, once convicted of the current act. Is there any way, that we can add up those years and if they are more than half her life, can we just execute her sorry, sorry ass?

I’m glad she got 21 years on the old charge, but she will always be a child abuser now or 21 years from now – and the level of her torture – we should just rid society of that POS.

In this case, “Granny” looks to be about 40 years old. That’s part of the problem. Babies having babies.

I had my first child at 20. Just a baby myself.

I have to agree with MG on this one. I had my first child at 19 and have never abused her – or any of the other five I have had since. I had a friend in high school who had a baby at 16, and was the best mother I’ve ever seen. Her son is an adult now, a college graduate, and an outstanding individual. And, as evidenced here at DD, there are hundreds of ‘older’ parents who abuse their children just as horribly as the teens profiled here. Sometimes I even think that the older abusers seem even more dedicated in their abuse and more creative with the forms of torture. *Because they have been around longer and had more opportunities to learn/think up such deviant behaviors, maybe?* Abuse is caused by (in my opinion) a lack of mental and emotional maturity, not the number of years you have lived on this planet. Parents who abuse their kids are still living in a childlike fantasy world where if you ‘hit’ the one who irritates you, it will stop them.

And I also don’t think that the baby for a day/weekend/week programs in schools do any more than scratch the surface, if that. Having a baby doll for two days is NOTHING compared to having an infant with colic, or a sick baby, or a child who is trying to test his/her independence at one or two years old. I think my 14 year old would be able to get an A+ on a home-ec ‘baby project’, even if it lasted a week. But I wouldn’t leave her with her own siblings alone for even 24 hours. Why? Because live children, as opposed to baby dolls, can increase the volume of their cries, wreck an entire house in two minutes flat, get into and destroy your personal belongings, and smart mouth you to the point of insanity. And it takes a greater level of maturity to handle situations like that. And, as I said earlier, age alone doesn’t guarantee such a level of maturity. Many other things have to be factored in. There is no ‘magic’ age at which you will make a good parent, only maturity level based on life.

Perhaps it has to do with my observation that generally the people who are calling CPS and filing reports about the innocent parents are the ones who are the guiltiest of neglecting and abusing their own.

And I also agree with this statement, as well as the one Wry said about the bullies at DFCS picking on the weak, because the strong scare them.
I had DFCS called on me shortly after my divorce from my first husband. My two oldest children were then five and one, and I was having to work two jobs to support us because my ex wouldn’t pay child support. I allowed a person I had thought to be a good friend move in with me. She was pregnant with her 5th child, and gave me a sob story about how devastated she was because she had to leave all of her other kids with relatives when she lost her apartment. One of the biggest mistakes I ever made was believing this girl. She moved in, and three months later I found out she was stealing from me, buying things through the mail in my name, and had emptied the change jar I kept for my children for little mini-vacations we would take when the jar was full. I had her arrested, and she called DFCS (from jail) to report that I was abusing my children. When the caseworker called me the next day, to say she would visit me in three days time, to inspect my home and children, I WENT OFF on her. I told her if she didn’t have her ass at my home by noon that day, I would call the sheriff’s office myself, and have several deputies come out to do an inspection and write up a report for me. She tried to explain that she wanted to “give me time” to “get my home straight” . I quickly told her that my shit was as straight at that moment as it ever was, and restated my intentions to involve local law enforcement, if she didn’t appear on my doorstep by noon. I also told her that I knew who called DFCS, gave her the girl’s name, and even told the woman that she was in jail because of me, and this was clearly a revenge report. While she couldn’t verify any of the statements I made to her (state regs.), she didn’t bother to deny them either. Long story short – she came, inspection was done, she left laughing, and tore up her original report in front of me before leaving my house. I was never even put in the system, as the girl had called HER OWN caseworker to report me, and the caseworker knew what kind of trash she was. After talking to me on the phone she had decided to wait until after the inspection to enter anything in the permanent files of the office. When she left, there was no record that the visit had ever been made. Was it because I showed balls and insisted on having things done my way? I’ll never be sure, but I think the probability (of my forcefulness with the woman having an effect on the disposition of my case) was very high. I also think it had a lot to do with the fact that the woman happened to be one of those individuals who actually wanted to protect the innocent, instead of wasting her time on a case that was obviously bullshit.

One good thing though Pooh, when she gets out, her boys will both be over 18 years old!!!

Yeah, but she’ll still be young enough to have more babies to abuse…..isn’t that a scary thought?
That’s why they should just go ahead and fry the bitch.

    UPDATE:

There will be a temp. custody hearing Monday, 3/10/o8 regarding Aiden.

I have faxed a letter with my concerns about Aiden’s black eyes in pics on his MySpace dated 10/31/07 (while in his maternal grandpa’s care) to both the social worker (Vicky Riggins FAX 912-754-7638) and the CASA director (Renee Gresham-Crawford FAX 912-447-0699) that are involved with Aiden’s case. I am asking them for a placement of both boys together, of course, and far from his family! Tina just gave birth to her second son while in prison in Atlanta.

    Yes that is scary.

And to fry the bitch – I want to go with that option anyway. That should be the first and only option for this sick bitch. Look at what she did – not once but twice, in less than 10 months. I think that speaks highly to the fact, she probably won’t be rehabilitated and is likely to reoffend the third time – so end it, before another innocent child gets hurt.

They just don’t understand, there are some people in this world that just need killing. 75 % of them are on DD.

Still they won’t let us kill her – so I have to be glad she is locked up for 21 – I know not really that long, good behavior and all that – but you know what I’m getting at. Its good to know she will be inconvenienced, at least for a little while.

Maybe some other mothers will help her see the light – you know the “light” of their lighters, while they light their cigerrettes to burn her sorry ass.

Is that forever and are you sure? I mean after 21 years, don’t you think some asshat will come out and say, Oh, she’s learned her lesson, now? She can have a baby.

If they ever let her, or Riley’s mom, or that BITCH Hermann, out – they should have manditory sterilizations before they ever see or feel the sunshine on their faces.

Normally, I think the government should stay out of peoples affairs – but these fine examples are the exception to my rule. Having more children should not be an option for these women. Since they are or will be convicted felons, they will not have any other rights – voting, possess a gun, apply for state aid, such as food stamps. So why, in the blue hell, would they let any of them have the RIGHT of producing a loving, helpless baby ever, ever again?

The judge also asked all family present (both maternal grandparents, step-grandma on Tina’s side, and paternal grandma) to sign a gag order. Meanwhile, Aiden is still in the hospital making slow but steady progress. He is soon to be one year old. From his MySpace page:

Baby Aiden will turn 1-year-old on Wednesday. He will spend the next year of his life in the custody of the state. That’s what was decided in court today at Aiden’s second custody hearing.

Attorneys representing Aiden’s parents acknowledged in court the couple will likely never get to see Aiden again or his newborn baby brother. Today, the attorneys told the judge the parents want a family member to raise their sons.

Aiden’s grandfather Steve Richards, is the only one seeking custody at this point. But it will be 12 months from now until the court and the Department of Family and Children Services decides who will get custody.

    Thanks for the link

Aiden’s attorney said several strangers tried to get into Aiden’s hospital room at Memorial and at least one person tried to take pictures of him.

So far no more custody hearings have been scheduled yet. Tina Richards and Phillip Waller will be back in court April 9, they will be arraigned on the child abuse charges.

Newborn baby brother… there isn’t just Aiden involved anymore… and as far as I’m concerned these parents lost right to say where these innocent lives reside, especially if it is ever anywhere near them!

There is no real justice for Aiden, no sentence harsh enough. Baby Aiden paid a price that will forever leave him traumatized for life.
His choices in life and the right to lead a happy, normal life was robbed and take from him. He had no voice but was just a helpless, innocent baby….for that I damn the mother and father.

My heart breaks for you baby Aiden. I hope what is left of your life is happy and loving.

    OKay..WTF

She will still only be 50 when she gets out?

I think she should be forcefully sterilized and stuck in there until she dies.

30 years translates to about 15 if she “behaves well”
she she might only be in her 30’s when she gets out and free to reproduce again?

    BULLSHIT!

This is one of the cases where if there had been a dad or someone else in the picture that I’d tell them to grab the kid and never look back. There are many cases where kids are used as weapons but I have no doubt there are cases just like this, where the abuser takes a class or two and gets their kid back. I hope the bitch gets beaten everyday inside prison. There are many women inside who miss their kids so I imagine she’ll get a warm welcome inside.

Baby Aiden’s mother sentenced to more prison time
By Michelle Paynter – bio | email

SPRINGFIELD, GA (WTOC) – The mother of baby Aiden Waller has pled guilty to beating her young son back in January.

Tina Richards is going to spend most of her adult life behind bars. Today the 20-year-old admitted to abusing him in an Effingham County courtroom. She beat him, threw him in his crib, bit him and restrained him by sewing his onesie to a bed sheet.

Aiden was 10-months-old at the time. He’s now almost 2-years-old and suffers from massive brain injuries.

“The prognosis, his long term prognosis is not good,” said prosecutor Michael Muldrew. “We don’t see him getting any better that he is now, it’s a real tragic situation.”

Today, judge Gates Peed sentenced Richards to 30 years in prison and another 10 years on probation. Richards is already serving 20 years for abusing Aiden the first time back in July 2007. She will serve both sentences at the same time and likely not get out of prison until the year 2038.

Muldrew admits the punishment does not fit the crime. “No, because nothing we can do in the judicial system will restore Aiden of the injuries he received,” said Muldrew. “It’s the maximum that we could give her, it may not be justice but it’s the best we could do.”

Richards is incarcerated at a women’s prison in Atlanta.

Tina Richard’s parents, who were very vocal about this case in the beginning, attending every court hearing earlier this year, were absent from the court room today.

Two young mothers who have followed the case from the beginning had a lot say today.

Brandi Davis grew up with Richards. “I’m glad she at least admitted her fault, I do pray she finds God in the process,” said Davis.

Kristin Hamilton’s son is just 10 days older than Aiden. It makes her sad to know Aiden will never have the happy childhood her son is enjoying.

“I don’t think there will ever be any justice, even if she got a life sentence,” she said. “It doesn’t help Aiden it doesn’t make him better.”

These mothers hope they never see or hear from Tina Richards again. As for Aiden, his tragic story is one they will never forget.

Aiden Waller remains in foster care. As for his dad, Phillip Waller, he is still in jail. Prosecutors said Phillip Waller knew about the abuse but didn’t report it. Muldrew said he is trying to work out a plea agreement with Waller’s attorney.

Bless his little heart…. 30 years isn’t enough for that bitch
