I just read an article on nola.com where she, the officer, and this guy tussled for about 7 min. It was stated in the article this ass was twice her size, I was just thinking damn, she put up a good fight.

Those 7 minutes must have felt like a lifetime. =(

My sympathies to her family.

This story really gets to me. This young woman looks like someone whom I'd enjoy as a friend. She has such a smile and looks so enthusiastic. Now she's dead and some scary murderer will get a few years and then be back on the street to kill again. Just not right.

Was there nobody else around to help this woman out? I guess she should have called for backup and she would still be alive, but like others have said I guess you just think you can handle anything once your get your badge and gun.

either which way-any officer on active duty should be well up to snuff in their sidearm capabilities and s.o.p. - which means-just because a perp looks like a fat slug doesnt mean he won't swing so don't doze off.

hand to hand combat is down the list of where you want to be no matter what your relative size or strength.

a gun *should* negate the need to wrestle. the cops i know are very handy with their nightsticks; a good crack to the back of the knees puts down most thickies. saves filling out paperwork for why you discharged your firearm as well. blither blither

i'm not a cop nor do i play one on t.v.-

I think about this a lot when I see female officers and those huge, fat, obese cops with their utility belts disappearing and their shirt-buttons dialing 911. Females should not be "front line" officers unless they can bench 250 and throw an average human over their shoulder and climb a flight of stairs with them. And every cop should be able to run a mile without puking.

It seems like cops were in better shape when I was younger. More like firemen still are today. What happened? Relaxed standards? Krispy Kreme?

Sad story. Trying to do justice and got killed for it.

Political correction at work? How big was this woman? 5' 2" 110 lbs? I'm not saying women shouldn't be cops, but I know a lot of male and female police who automatically think a badge makes them "Rambo" and they forget big criminal men will put up a hellova fight as opposed to being arrested quietly.
