Arizona - Shawn Cole, 40, is a sailor in the US Navy who was on a flight from Hawaii to Arizona. Because of certain seating conditions, a 13-year-old girl who was on the flight with her parents, was seated next to him by the window. After introducing themselves and watching two movies together, the girl said she was resting with her eyes closed when she felt Cole sexually grope her both inside and outside her underwear. Luckily, flight attendants thought something was off when they witnessed Cole caressing the “sleeping” girl around her upper and lower lips with his right hand. The flight attendant confronted Cole, who said he was traveling with the victim, but when the attendant asked the girl if she knew Cole, she said “no.” The attendant moved the girl to another seat and an investigation began.

I remember when I was 7 yrs old sitting at a McDonald’s booth with my mom…she let me go to the restroom alone. There was this man who said “hi” to me as I walked past him. When I returned to the booth–the man had changed tables-he sat at a table where I could see him, but my mom’s back was to him…he started doing something “weird” under the table…I didn’t understand until I was much older what that SICKO was doing under the table.
I guess even at McDonald’s too….yuck!

Poor kid. Since she froze up, the perv will tell himself that she really liked it, and that’s why she was pretending to be asleep. When he gets out, he’ll do it some more.
Kudos to the wife who isn’t standing by him, and kudos to the flight attendants who were paying attention. No love at all for the parents who didn’t teach her useful ways to get help in that kind of situation and who didn’t insist that she sit with one of them for the flight.

My husband would have been arrested for assault and/or attempted murder once the plane landed because he would’ve pummeled the perv that touched one of our kids. Actaully, we would tag-team the sick fuck. Of course, we would never let one of our kids sit with a stranger & out of our protective sight. But, there would have been a beat down at 30,000 ft, if I were one of her parents!

Not 100 percent sure why the seating arrangements ended up they way they did, but from what I could gather, the plane was not full, so passengers could, if they wanted, choose to sit in one of the empty seats. This girl probably wanted to sit by a window or something.
Not that this answers why the parents would have let her sit beside a 40-year-old man they did not know, but my guess is that they just let their guard down in a setting in which they would have never imagined a pedophile would, in public, finger their 13-year-old. Also, as Dammitall stated, the parents probably figured if anything like that would ever happen to their daughter, she would scream or something.
Also, there is a the small chance that the girl actually allowed it. It does not excuse anyone, but still. I knew some fucked up 13-year-olds in my day and had I heard they were involved with anything like this, it wouldn’t have surprised me in the least. They were already sexually active.

very true but even if the plane was 100% full i would NEVER allow my girls to sit with anyone else. I would be up there causing all kind of hell to make sure that she was with me.
and yes she may have been a totally whore and even moved her leg over so he could get a better feel, you are correct again that this perv is the grown up and should know better.

When I read about the seating arrangement issues, I thought maybe one of the parents was helpless in some physical way and maybe they had to sit together. But if the plane wasn’t full. Oh hell, who knows? What a sad story. And I completely understand the girl freezing up — some things are too weird to react to immediately and a person freezes in a primitive form of self-protection.
Now this child will have to deal with this the rest of her life. Damn him and his god-damned needs.

In the summer my girlfriends and I (11, 12 yrs old) would walk to the drugstore for the coveted Wet & Wild. We would pass a car lot where this guy would kneel down beside the cars and beat off as we walked / ran by. He was there for 2 summers then we never seen him again.

From what I read aboutthis online, there was only one parent travelling with her. I’m not 100% sure about this becauseI’ve only read one news article.
Chances are there were empty seats on the plane, but not 2 together and she just took her assigned seat.
And yeah, when shit like this happens to you, you don’t always think to scream.

Uniform or no, I wouldn’t hesitate to allow a 13-year-old to sit next to a 40-year-old on an airplane that I’m on, as well. Airplanes are like public space — only safer. People are all around you, the stews are cruising the aisles, people leave valuables at their seat when they get up to stretch and use the lav. There’s a feeling of safety — mostly because no one can get off the frickin’ plane. So what are you going to do? Mug, rape, assault someone? Everyone will see you do it and there’s no escape. Planes are generally thought to be safe because, well, they generally ARE safe.
All it takes is one asshat, though, and, sadly, this girl found one. And then froze instead of screaming. I can understand it, for sure — she’s only 13 — but one outburst from her would have ended the episode instantly.
I wouldn’t hesitate to let my kid sit next to a stranger on a plane. Unless the stranger had really bad vibes for me. Plus, you know moody, petulant teenagers!! Her parents may have been just FINE with her sitting off by herself.

I personally at 13 would of fastly stood up and insisted on being moved. depending on the moment if I would of pointed out what he was doing.
On one of our trips we weree told we had to move from our assigned seats because my daughter wasn’t old enough as that was the emergency door. they switched us both with an older couple. I was puzzled why we were assigned the seats as birthdates were given during the reservations.

My brother was Air Force for 20 years and it was required to have your uniform on for flights traveling to and from base. He was always in uniform when he got off a plane. And certainly, not many people would be suspicious of a serviceman in uniform.

My kids travel alone every summer from Florida to Colorado – then back. I always pay the extra $50 to have them “watched” by the stewardesses, but it’s always nerve-racking because I’m nervous about another 9/11 happening. This shit, I never dreamt of.

First off i just want to apologize for what my fellow sailor did. See I know him. I was stationed with him once before. He seamed like a really good guy and all of us that knew him were really surprised this happened, so please do not hold this against any of our sailors or soldiers. To answer and comment on a few things though, they weren’t sitting in the back of the plane more like the middle, he wasn’t in uniform (we don’t like to do that on commercial flights due to TERRORISTS), only the mother was on the flight ( i think she was trying to hook up with someone at the time, that’s why she wasn’t around), the “Hawaiian molester sailor” was not Hawaiian he is a white guy, and the main reason she was sitting next to him was so she could watch movies on his laptop. I think thats about it…..

Spazz, thanks for commenting and welcome to the site! I don’t think anyone here is casting a negative eye on our armed forces as a result of this guy’s behavior. We have a lot of military personnel and families here who know better.
