I saw the baby high in the air. I thought it was a doll at first,” a man said. The man held the child in one arm and “tossed it into the air,” he said.

The boy was hit by one or more cars before ending up in the westbound lanes just blocks from the Capitol and the governor’s mansion.

Man, I saw this on msnbc, and they didnt know whose child it was yet. I was thinking if it is someone elses, they will be horrified. Damn it, when will people stop leaving their small children with “acquaintances”. I know I probably misspelled that, but you guys know what I mean. Am I the only one who finds these mothers partly responsible for leaving their kids with these psychos?

Your spelling is fine, and no you aren’t the only one. Holy cats, people. If your babysitter is high or insane or leering at your child or gets mad and throws things, get a new freakin’ babysitter. And “occasional booty call” does not equal “appropriate caregiver for infant”.

You got it. I, on the other hand, raped it. But it was on purpose…’cause I never misspell anything.

OMFG is about all I can say on this one. I am horrified for the baby, the mother, and the poor bastards driving the cars that hit the child. I would need some serious therapy if I’m cruising on the interstate and a baby falls from the sky.

Sounds like he watched the kid before, apparently (hopefully) nothing eventful happened before.

Oh, Higa screamed “Thank you for everything” to television crews as he was escorted to a cell block. While in a police car, he rocked back and forth in the back seat.

Dude is fucking off his rocker, but he knew what he was doing. He wants some attention, to be notorious- Okay lets take him to a Town Center and hang him, theres your 5 minutes.
Then we will move on to AL where asshole who threw 4 kids off a bridge is , give him some cement shoes and throw him over.

WTF is up with baby throwing lately? There are so many other ways to kill if the mood strikes you, why the hell does it have to be so cruel?

If several cars hit this baby, there probably isn’t much left for the mom to bury.

Someone needs to built a catapult large enough to hold this lard ass and fling this mother fucker right onto a busy LA freeway. I don’t give a shit how mentally unstable he is. Get rid of the fucker.

I’m sure he was convinced that he was being chased down the walkway by the demon possessed spirit of some long dead medical doctor that wanted his scrubs back. As he saw it, his only hope to save the baby was to pass it to the angels of mercy on the freeway below.

    Fucking psycho!

    More information about the relationship…

According to police reports, the child wandered off the apartment as his grandfather was sleeping earlier in the day, but he had been safely returned home. One guess would be he wondered off again and Higa found him before the authorities did, but there is no assurance that this is what really happened.

The same newspaper also reports that Higa was living in the same apartment building as the boy’s family, and that he had the strangest behavior, screaming in the middle of the night or walking up and down the building stairs all night, which didn’t stop the mother’s boyfriend from paying him visits, together with the toddler. He was even asked to babysit from time to time. The police investigation will continue.

I don’t see what the big deal is. I used to leave my kid with an old bag lady who lived behind my local 7-11…he turned out ok. Sort of.

I just got this image of that kid twirling in the air before landing on the street. Man, what a nightmare for everyone involved…including the witnesses.

The poor kid hit the ground and then two or three cars ran over him. How God awful.

I’ve been trying to make sense of the present world. We have families that are turning themselves necessarily into tiny fortresses in order to keep their children away from predators. Then we have single mothers who must leave their kids with someone, so take desperate chances with people they “know,” who are actually strangers. Then we have the families in which subsidized programs guarantee the birth of a healthy baby and then those babies are stuffed into ovens and left to wander apartment complexes. What a tragedy to birth babies who are just the source of a check to their feckless parents.

I live in a very small town and will be forever an outsider because everyone here has known each other from the moment of conception. And I can see how it used to be. We have our registered sex offenders, our drunks, and unreliables, but everyone knows who they are. There’s no public talk about it, but people cue each other in privately. I guess this is how it was when a child could freely roam a small town. They were protected by a network of real relationships and local self-policing.

Sorry to ramble. I’m just trying to make sense of what I see nowadays.

I live in one of those towns also. Folks are cordial enough, but make sure that you know you’re not really one of them. They single out kids who moved into town for punishment while the ones who grew up here get off scott free on every offence they commit.

We actually have a resident who, in 1949, brutally murdered the local librarian, in the library. He wandered all over town afterward, covered in blood. Even went back to the crime scene and eventually turned himself in the next day. He told the police he ‘just wanted to kill someone.’ Plenty of people know who he is, but won’t say. Only info I have gotten is that he served out his prison time, lives in the community, and attends my church. Kinda makes me want to check out a few new religions.

However, you dont just snap and throw a baby of a bridge, i am sure more happened to this child in the care of this “person”

I remember when I was growing up, the local nut would walk around carrying a rock and a stick. My Dad came home one day and said he saw old nutjob on the bridge at the river. The rock and the stick were having an argument and he knew one of them was going to end up in the river when it was all over.

I want to know why he was walking the streets at all. He’d just been admitted in December….

“But while Higa apparently was not missing from the hospital yesterday, police said he had been a patient there before and had been admitted as recently as Dec. 11, 2007, after an incident at a Honolulu car dealership in which he locked himself in a car and refused to get out until officers were called to the scene.

Higa was not arrested for an offense but was sent to Queen’s for psychiatric evaluation.

Yesterday, Higa indicated to police that he was recently released from Queen’s.”

WRYBREAD, I think the trouble is some people have babies that shouldn’t be having babies. Seriously, how hard is it to abstain or use birth control? If you can’t afford to have a baby or you can’t take care of the baby yourself DON’T HAVE A BABY! I also believe that just leaving the child with “whatever ” has been a big problem in all these stories. I’m sorry all you guys out there, but most of the time men do not make good babysitters. Men tend to get busy with a task and forget there is a child around. Then there is the sex thing. This country is absolutely lacking when it comes to holding people responsible for having a bunch of kids they can’t take care of. PLEASE! They are always talking about spaying or neutering our pets. I know a lot of people who need spaying or neutering. But no, they have their rights! Bullshit! Children have the right to be born to responsible parents. Let’s quit giving people money to have kids and start taking kids away and spaying or neutering the the irresponsible.

my first inclination… mr. higa is definitely mentally ill…..HAS to be. but i am so sad about that baby… and i feel for the drivers who ran it over – can you imagine? i’d need therapy for years to get the image out of my head – and that probably wouldn’t work either.

I’m all for spaying and nuetering people. There are some people who just should not have kids. If you are a crackwhore or anything like it, living in the slums full of crazy people and cant support yourself you should not have children until you clean up your act. They should make people get a special license to breed at the very least. I would never leave my son with someone even a little bit crazy! and she has three kids that are all not living with her (one recently thrown off a bridge) so what, she just goes out and replaces it with number four. The poor kid.
I feel for the kid, I can’t say the same about the mother, family first if you can’t find a sane sitter, take the kid with you. Some people cant have children and its tragic to hear that some that are blessed choose to torture, rape, kill, maim their babies rather than give them up for adoption.

I am ALL for sterilization! I really think that when people have their kids taken away for abuse they need to be sterilized. they should not be allowed to torture/rape/murder more kids. Also if one child is taken away, please take them all away so the next one doesn’t get killed! I have said before and I will continue to say it, there should be a license for having kids. It is not democratic, I know, but at some point we need to do something. How many stories just this year of kids getting raped/murdered/abused/thrown of bridges? It is heartbreaking and something really does need to change.

used baby killer Matthew Higa declared himself mentally fit to stand trial for second-degree murder yesterday and asked to be tried by a judge rather than a jury.

…..three mental health experts appointed to examine him split on whether Higa is fit for trial. Two found him fit, one found him unfit.

And two of the three experts said Higa was not insane at the time of the crime. They said his psychotic behavior was due to his admitted methamphetamine use. The third expert did not render an opinion.

Oyama(Higas lawyer) said he is still exploring possible defenses, including insanity and mental incapacitation due to involuntary ingestion of narcotics.

His trial is set for January 2010

Cyrus Belt, 23 months, is the childs name and his life was chaos from the beginning! Poor child was born addicted to meth, his mother, Nancy Asiata Chanco used while pregnant with him. She had given him over to foster care for four days in June 2007. She was on drugs and couldn’t care for him. Rumor has it that Higa was a supplier to her at times (of meth) and that they would use together…. Ms. Chanco has two older children, one lives with his father, the middle child lives with her mother. Cyrus Belt was a beautiful baby and quite outgoing and talkative, despite his genes. I so wish that he had stayed in foster care and been adopted away from them all. No telling what Cyrus would’ve accomplished. Of course, I pray that Matthew Higa would just throw himself off the prison and save us all the crap.

On Higa, How does one involuntarily ingest narcotics? Meth was the only drug in his system according to tests, so how does that happen, involuntarily? My ass, it doesn’t!!
