Camp Lejeune — Lance Cpl. Maria Lauterbach 20, was reported missing by her mother on Dec. 19, five days after the two last spoke. She is also 81/2 months pregnant. Her car was found Monday night at a bus station near base and investigators said it hadn’t been there long. Her cell phone was on N.C. Highway 24. Suspicious activity has been flagged in Lauterbach’s bank accounts since her disappearance.
Interesting to not is the fact that she was due to testify in a criminal case after being the victim of an on-base crime, but no one is elaborating. They are also not giving much details on the possible father of the baby. She lived in the Midway Park housing area, which isn’t on base but is reserved for Marines. Deputies have searched the home and questioned some roommates. Investigators are still waiting to talk with at least one male roommate who might be deployed and he could be considered a person of interest.
“Until you can interview him and eliminate him, you still consider them as key people of concern,” Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said.
Lauterbach’s mother came to Onslow County last weekend from the family’s home in Montgomery, Ohio, to provide whatever assistance she could in the investigation. Friends and relatives also set up a Facebook.com page to help find the missing Marine, who they said would never go anywhere without letting someone know. I don’t have a FacebookFacebook

This story was on Nancy Grace last night and the family and the military are really being closed mouth about this story. And it seems the military made the family wait to file a missing persons report because she had to be classified as a deserter first – WTF? She is female and is 8 months pregnut. I’m thinking either she was killed as a witness or her baby’s daddy didn’t want to fool with her. The daddy is probably a married superior of hers.

As a former Marine and a realist I have to say the circumstances of your disapearance paint a very dark prognosis for the outcome of this story. Watching the press conference now and they are saying that she’s dead (even though they haven’t located the body yet, but they are searching an area where they believe her body is) and the suspect is the man who she said had raped her.

What I don’t understand and what is pissing me off is that she was reported missing on Dec 19th. The story didn’t become a story until Jan 8th. We all know that when someone is missing, the best way to get information is to bring it to the public.
Make that face known! In most cases, someone saw something! Look how much information came out about the scumbucket in Meredith Emerson’s case as soon as they had a description of the guy she was seen with that day. The police received literally hundreds of phone calls, as well as videotape of the guy!
Whether she’s alive or dead, this story should have been out there sooner. If she was alive, so they could find her and help. If she was dead, to get that poor girl’s body in out of the cold.
This was gravely mishandled.

No cover-up. She accused the guy, Marine Cpl. Cesar Laurean, of raping her, then carried on a relationship with him. That is why he wasn’t in custody already. He is now the one accused of killing her. He has been on the run since Friday and another person, not named, is the one who came forward and let the cat out of the bag.
The father of the baby doesn’t have anything to do with any of this aside from being the one who got her pregnant.

I just read that the remains were “charred” and that luminol indicated that there was blood in several places in the house that the accused shared with his wife and baby. That’s what it said but, I have not seen anywhere else that they had a child together.
