BOCA RATON — Nancy Bochicchio, 47, and her 8-year-old daughter, Joey Bochicchio-Hauser, were killed during an apparent robbery outside the Sears store at Town Center. They were discovered by mall security shortly after midnight Thursday in a black 2007 Chrysler Aspen SUV with the motor still running. The SUV was parked in a merchandise pickup area near the south side of the Sears department store. An undisclosed amount of money was taken. Some of the public posted on Internet message boards calling on patrons to boycott the Town Center during the holiday season. Some are angry that police did not publicly state that the people found dead had presumably been killed during a robbery, and that they were a mother and young daughter, until at least 15 hours after the crime occurred. Police have increased after-hours patrols at the mall.

What??? The killer showed remorse by leaving the heat on? You're kidding right?

I used to live in Warsaw (Poland), and the American community was quite tight there. When one of the popular new malls began attracting young petty criminals in its underground parking lot, we spread the news by word-of-mouth and stopped shopping there.

From the photo of the Jeep, I would suspect this is also an indoor lot. Dark, shadowy corners, monitored occasionally by cameras while mall security staff is all upstairs, completely occupied with the hordes of Xmas shoppers.

Of course, the question is why did he have to kill them? My daughter is 7. It breaks my heart.

Nancy Bochicchio was making the final plans for Joey's eighth birthday party on Sunday, said Hank Matthews, a close friend and neighbor.

I wished they would get their facts straight before hitting submit.

I agree Moscow, this does not happen often in the malls here and South Florida. Something is definitely wrong here.
  • moscow04
Fact is, Boca Raton is an extremely rich part of South Florida. People here expect that their shopping malls will be safe places to shop, and that security will be adequate. That's also why they are targets for scum who seek to steal from others. This kind of stuff is not common, so the fact that Town Center has seen it before, seems like a good reason for a boycott. There are great malls in Ft. Lauderdale and Palm Beach, so screw them for having crap security and now a bodycount.

Morbid, Thanks for the further information, and yeah, I agree I'd want to know if the mall where I shopped at had a string of robberies. I also see the mall's point, go and holler "man at large" and it ain't good for business.

farmer that's okay sister, I usually have a good cry every time I come here....but usually a good laugh too, so it's all good.
  • farmergurl62
hippie poet I dint mean to make youn cry I was just trying to point out that if the people of today would put more effort into what the holiday was really about then maybe just maybe if more people would go back to the old ways some of the crime would die down
  • I should have added that to the original article, but yes, there have been a string of robberies at the mall, including some deaths. Some articles mentioned that they may be related as no one has been caught in any of the incidents. In one case, the guy held a gun to a toddlers head while making the mother withdraw money from an ATM, in another, a woman was shot to death in her vehicle in the parking lot.

But I think the big reason why people are pissed is the old Amity Island Mayor syndrome seen in Jaws. The mayor didn't want the shark attack to be announced to the public because of the tourist season. The mall didn't let anyone know any of the details until 15 hours later. The angry are implying their safety was sacrificed so that shopping wouldn't be affected. But in reality nothing stops people from shopping. Just look at the latest mall shootings. Life goes on. However, I guess it would have been nice to know that a man-at-large was still being sought.

QUOTE farmergurl "last year when one of our 13 year old grandsons friends ask him what he got for christmas my grand son told his friend I got love what did you get his friend told him about all of the expensive stuff he got my grand son says yep but your stuff will get old and broke mine wont"

Damn that made me all teary eye, farmer. Shit fire.

And yes, Athena I would like to know more about this story.

I don't understand the boycott of the mall? Had there been problems with a lot of crime there? Are people upset with the mall for lack of security?
  • Athena
Does anyone else think it's kind of weird that some want to boycott the mall over this? I don't really see the logic in that.

Kathy and Pooh - they did say "apparent" robbery. Perhaps it was just made to look like a robbery? A lot of unanswered questions, indeed.

Another cup of shit to deal with - so so sad. I think the dumbasses have some kinda logic like no witness - but damn it was a mall at pick-up area surely there are cameras.

How late is this mall open - and didn't anyone else have to pick up anything? - surely someone saw something. Why did security have to find her? Didn't any of the "loaders" working for Sears see the same car sitting there on and on. Or one last thought, it was at closing and maybe one of the employees had something to do with it. Still a lot of unanswered questions as to "where was everyone else?" It was a mall and it is holiday season.

    Happy fucking Holidays...

I don't understand why they kill when they rob. Just take their money. Really what is a 47 year old lady and child gonna do to you?

Now when your sorry ass gets caught, you have a murder charge instead of an armed robbery charge. Dumbfuck.
