Omaha, Nebraska – Robert Hawkins killed eight people and wounded five others Wednesday at the popular Westroads Mall in Omaha, Nebraska, before committing suicide. The shooting took place mostly inside the Von Maur store. His mother found a suicide note in which he stated he wanted to go out in style. I guess his definition of style and my definition are a bit off. Going out in a blaze of glory by having a shootout with the local gang-bangers, ok. I had to go read the articles. It is terrible for those families, but thankfully my brother would have been at work when this happened. I’ve been to that mall. The whole thing just gives me this creepy feeling up my spine.

News said mall security was unarmed. Too bad. I guess the mall operators figured if they pay these guys a dollar over minimum wage and keep them unarmed they can keep shouting “Hey you, drop the gun until the police get here!!” and that will deter wackos from terrorizing the mall. Todd Trimpe told FOX News that he saw police apprehend a man, dressed in camouflage, who was hiding under a bus-stop bench outside the mall. Trimpe said the man “stood out like a sore thumb.” He did not know what was happening inside the mall when he witnessed the arrest.
On Friday night, authorities removed a live grenade from the parking lot of the same mall.
President Bush was in town Wednesday for a fundraiser in Omaha, but left about an hour before the shooting.
