BETHANY, Okla. — Barnes was last seen on Friday at 7:30 p.m. when she told her mother she was going out with a friend. Barnes was not reported missing by her mother until SaturdaySaturday reviewsSaturday reviews.

A first-degree murder warrant was issued for Eric Phan, 20, a student at Southern Nazarene University, according to Bethany Police Chief Neal Troutman. He has turned himself in to police. Police said they believe Phan and Barnes met at a local park to discuss the possibility that Phan might be the father of Barnes’ unborn child. Spent bullet shells were found in a car belonging to Phan.

Troutman told Eyewitness News 5’s Adam Slinger that officers and volunteers searching the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refugearea should be prepared to find a body.

Thanks, Lee, for the heads up. Sorry, Northwind.

    Peace to all

…and to the little shitbag that killed her, damn man, you shouldn’t of hit it unless you were willing to take the responsibilities for spilling your pathetic seeds, what a low life, you killed her and your baby, FOOL. Punkass little irresponsible fool. I would love to smack your face and spit in it, just once for Lauren.

I agree how sad, I know of a college student right now that is pregnant by a one night stand, she said it was really stupid and she can’t go thur an abortion I had just told her to weigh the pros and cons – do you have name address social number – will you have to send your child out of state for visitation since your in a college town away from your home.

Are you telling him cause there is a risk he may kill you. His family might have more money and a better home to provide will you risk the heart break of a court deciding who will have custody. will you keep quiet and tell welfare you don’t know who is the father.

plan parenting is essential – its a lifetime of responsibility – you better really know who your sleeping around with. Sure improves the odd

that sucks so bad. I got preggo at 18 and the guy was a dick about it, we got married when the baby was 8 months old and it lasted 2 months. He would have killed me if I stayed. But I left. THat was a bad scenerio. I would be scared to death to tell someone now a days if I was a teen pregnant. People are killing for much less than that. People are too loose about sex. Its such a throw away thing, not something to be cherished and saved. Same with a life. People see other people as disposable. I dont know whats wrong with the world. I live in a very small town and I guess I have small town ideals. I never realized how evil the world had become til I started coming here. I dont get home in time to watch the early news and am usually doing other things intstead of watching nightly news so I never hear about these things. I am very disturbed at how bad things are.

me too I had no idea neither I know of someone from online games that lives in Stella that told me her sons classmate was missing that is how I came to find this site. shortly after they found Rowan. I have been following the Madeleine story since May as that was posted in msn groups. I have tv on all day even sleep with it on I see alot of news and half these story never make it on my local channel. But what I do hear makes me scared for the city I live in I knew it was going to be a mistake when they approved the license to carry guns everyday now someone is getting shot, babies being killed or burned out of their home. I am aware too that not all local news stories make the news.

People are so insensitive about what they write on this website. I can’t believe one of the comments that I just read. Lauren was an amazing person. She was one of my friends.
She is beautiful inside and out, and comments about her appearance are so uncalled for. She is a daughter, and a friend to a lot of people. Between two and three hundred people searched for her yesterday morning. I was one of them.
She is five months pregnant and was soooo excited to have her daughter. She just chose a new name and was so proud of her unborn baby girl.
I am still praying that she will be found and I am praying for her family.
    I love you Lo.

I was wondering that, myself. But I’m sure the police and the family are relieved at this point to have finally located her. It also augers well for moving forward with a prosecution….it’s a durn sight harder without the physical evidence of a body.

When these things happen, and this is going to sound so corney and lame, I always imagine that my Amy is there to meet them and show them around. It’s silly and childish I know but it helps me, like with Rowan, my first thought was, take good care of her Amy. It’s how I cope I guess.

Seems as if they got a tip that led them to Phan, and a tip that led them to the exact spot the body was found. She was buried 3-ft under ground. I wonder if the tipster helped with the disposal.

  15. Ruby
    3:29 pm on November 30th, 2007

Seems odd. The story I read said the police do not consider the tipster a suspect. I wonder if it’s because they’re so sure they’ve got their man (Phan) or some other exhonerating information they have about the tipster. Could be someone Phan confided in? Or someone who was there and saw him burying her? Lots of possibilities…

That Phan fellow doesn’t look like a real strong type. I am not saying it is impossible, but just hard to imagine he was able to lift, drag, bury a dead body that was also 5-months pregnant all by himself. Maybe if he had a LOT of time, I guess, or if the actual crime happened at the location she was found. Guess we will all find out soon enough.

  18. Ruby
    3:36 pm on November 30th, 2007

All of the comments about Phan from people who know him surely don’t paint a portrait of him as a violent type, either. I certainly hope the cops didn’t rush to judgment on him, but spent shell casings in his car are kind of hard to explain. Again, locating the body was key. Forensic analysis should be able to show pretty conclusively whether the bullets match the casings in his car, no?

that is a beautiful thought. I lost my grandmother July last year. she was my world.

Every time i have a bad day or am very sad, i seem to see a dragon fly (i live in so cal its not like they are everywhere and the chances of me seeing them all year long are not very good) but when i see one i think that my grandmother sent it to me just to let me know she is still here for me. im corny as shit, and now my face is leaking at work.

    WOW

    http://www.crimelibrary.com/news/original/1107/2901_eric_phan1.html

the body was not Lauren’s, and has since been identified as that of 48-year-old Denise F. Stice, a civil employee at Tinker Air Force Base, who was reported missing shortly after the discovery. The state medical examiner has ruled Denise’s death a homicide, stating that her death was caused by a single gunshot wound to the head. As of this writing, police have no suspects in her murder.

I also don’t know Carl Weathers. I know I am biased because Lauren was my friend, but his comment bothers me. He is worried about Eric’s reputation being ruined when a five month pregnant woman was killed. Her short life was ended abruptly.
I wonder if Carl knows that gun shells were found in Eric’s car, or that Eric was the father or Laurens baby, or that Lauren was found a half mile from Eric’s house.
Eric was also at the park with Lauren. I mean he hasn’t been proven guilty so I can’t say that he killed her, but I think all of the clues point straight at him.
He was engaged and got Lauren pregnant.

Was the “tip” the police got, possibly someone that helped dispose of her body? Has any paternity test been done to decide whether or not this baby is actually Eric’s?

I was wondering if you were still around. Hate to hear things turned out the way they did. Northwind, has there been anything mentioned about Eric’s demeanor? His friends make him out to be some kind of Saint. I know that is usually the case when something like this happens, but I was just curious if the general consensus was this kid snapped or if he had demonstrated any violent behavior before this incident.

So glad to here they didn’t forget about the little Avery and charged the POS with that murder, too. Hurray!!!!

Has there been any updates as fas as has he confesed, is he denying it? If he confesses – then by all means go for the death penalty and if he don’t confess and they have a good case DNA and shellcasing, whatever – then GO FOR THE DEATH PENALTY. He killed his own child.

I don’t understand this “deciding for the death penalty” – It shouldn’t have to be how slow or horrific a child’s death is to be the deciding factor – if someone intentionally kills a child – there own kid especially or even not, just a child – where is the question? It is a death penalty offense. Damn, hanging laws are still on the books for stealing horses. Its a no brainer if you ask me – there are certain offenses that justify the death penalty. Again, the only problem with the death penalty is it is not used often enough.

Thanks for posting an update, Des. I was afraid the judge would let him have life with parole, but I think after hearing all of Eric’s lies while on the stand under oath, and after seeing Eric show absolutely NO emotion whatsoever while describing his horrific acts, that there was no way he could have chosen anything EXCEPT life without parole.
