Liberty, Mo – Melissa was charged with felony child endangerment after a 4-month-old boy she was baby-sitting suffered critical injuries, apparently from being shaken. Thompson, 36, was watching the baby at her home when she called the baby’s mother and stated that the infant was lifeless and “was not acting right”. Melissa first stated that she thought her son had fallen ont he baby, but later confessed to hitting the baby’s head on the wooden portion of a changing table. When asked if she had shaken the baby, she asked for an attorney.

A baby boy thought to have been intentionally shaken by his Northland baby sitter has died. Four-month-old Jacob P. Mattingly, who had been in critical condition at Children’s Mercy Hospital since Monday, died Wednesday evening, the Kansas City Police Department reported.

This is the reason my kids didn’t go to babysitters when they were infants. They cannot tell Mom and Dad if the baby sitter is an asshole, when mommy and daddy aren’t around. Hell they’re 5 and 11 and still only go to their aunt’s house to be watched. Call me overprotective but damn….

Hippiepoet, I hear ya! I had my mom thank god! I can’t imagine having to go through the task of hiring a babysitter today, thank god I don’t have to worry about that anymore. (And if my 25 year old would get her butt busy making me a grandbaby I’d babysit happily!!) ((hint hint if she reads this))

You are not being overprotective at ALL Hippiepoet. If only all parents were like us. I remember when my son was just 1 year old, I had to go back to work and my mom had told me that she didnt want to babysit for me anymore. I was so desperate, that I took him to the aunt of a coworker of mine (she babysits the coworker’s kids), and left him there for the day. I hadnt even met the aunt until then. When my mom found out later that day, she told me forget it, that she would watch him. I was SO relieved, you have no idea how terrified I was at leaving him there. I still get nauseous when i think about the fact I left him that one day with her. I was 21 then, nowadays I know I would have rather quit my job than leave him with anyone.

Well, JUSTAMOM2, early when I saw her face, I started thinking what if this bitch did this to my child, man, I’d been in trouble. Right now, I just feel like spitting a huge nasty goober right in her face. There is soooo much information out there on not shaking a baby. I remember with my first, she had colic and cried all the time, numerous formula changes, no sleep and let me tell you there were days I thought I’d blow. But, I remembered….place the baby in another room in a safe place and shut the door, go scream, go cuss, go throw some damn shit, but never, ever shake the baby.

This is really sad. A baby who is shaken really has no chance of coming out ok, if this baby would have lived it might of been mentally retarded. Unbelievable. Now this woman will be charged with murder. Damn, shame. My heart goes out to this baby’s family.
