I’m semi-local and this article states more than I knew from the news.

I know that spanking is out of favor, but a good old-fashioned ass beatin’ would have been better to get the kids to at least *pretend* to nap than poisoning them with pills.

Police said two adults at the home —one believed to be a

relative — were taken into custody for questioning. No arrests had been made by Monday.

The whereabouts of the children’s parents remain unknown.

An autopsy was performed Monday, but it will take several weeks for toxicology results to be returned.

“This is a tragedy beyond belief,” said East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks. “We’re talking about a person who never had a chance to really start living.”

Police were coming and going on Monday from the house where the girl’s body was found, but they offered few details.

Trash was strewn across the property. The front yard was littered with bubble gum and condom wrappers. Several homes on the block appeared vacant, labeled with public auction notices.

John Lee, a neighbor who lives two doors down, said he had never seen the children before.

“Man, this is terrible,” he said.
