Riley Sawyers = Baby Grace

Mom admitted that herself and her husband beat the girl, held her head underwater and threw her against a wall, causing her head to slam onto the tile floor.

Riley Sawyers, a 2-year-old missing from Spring, Ohio, is Baby Grace, according to officials. Riley’s mother, Kimberly Trenor, and her new husband, Royce Zeigler, are both in Galveston County Jail, charged with injury to a child and tampering with evidence. Both have bonds of $350,000. For those of you reading who are not aware of the case, “baby Grace” was the name given to an unidentified girl found dead in a storage container found in West Galveston Bay, Texas a month ago.

Riley was last seen when Kimberly took her to Texas to meet Royce, a man she met over the internet. Riley’s father and grandmother had not heard from Kimberly since and had been going through the legal process of getting visitation rights set up when they saw the report on Baby Grace and contacted authorities. Kimberly has stated to officials that Riley was taken from her by someone claiming to be an Ohio social worker.

The little girl was adorable. This is a washed out depiction.

  2. Kristi says:

    Got it, thanks Morbid.

Oh, I sooo agree with you Hippie!! If there is ANY justice at all this fucker will feel more than a belt slap before he frys!!!

By the way, does anyone “fry” anymore? Or have all states conformed to injections? Cause you know, we wouldn’t want to impose anything too cruel or unusual to any of the people who have committed such crimes that they received the death penalty to begin with.

And oh yeah, mommy bitch needs to fry right next to the fat pig! Not only did she not attempt to stop the bastard, she admittedly participated in the 5-6 hour torture of her baby girl.

  3. ashdavus says:

Is it just me…or are there others out there who would gladly spend 10 years in prison in exchange for a baseball back and 5 minutes with these fuckers?

Seriously though…I think death penalty in this case should be the public getting to take cracks at them with a pole like they were a couple of friggin pinatas. HA HA HA HA

    Kristi ~!

Click on the article about the teddy bear.

Scroll down a couple of posts. There is a post by Marlene 12/2/2007…mentioning where a member posted a CARACATURE PICTURE…. Here is also the link:

    Morbid re:128

Lets cheapen someone’s image to further our own cause-woohoo. Because really…who WANTS child abuse to happen?

My cousin’s picture STILL is shown on fred phelps(I refuse to capitalize his name) hate site. He also held an insignificant protest at his funeral.

So yeah,I have first hand experience with this type of propaganda.

  6. Morbid says:

ells I think that is what gets to me. It’s a crappy-ass piece of work to further some type of agenda, even if it is a good one. To me, it is absolutely no different than the one I made.

If anyone is offended by this, then you know exactly how some of us feel when we see people using dead kids in poses that are not real to promote anything at all.

  7. solange82200 says:

I know you guys are going to get mad at me for bringing this up, but I have to agree with Kathy and Morbid in regards to the race thing. However, I respect Krirty and Wonder’s opinion. It just seems to me that while kids do get more press when they are missing. I dont have any facts to support it, so I could be wrong, but it is just my impression. And I dont think it’s the reporters themselves that do this, not sure why it happens, if its the viewers who contribute to it or what.

  8. ells9824 says:

I think a lot of it is what is going on at *that* particular time.
Remember “shark bite summer”? I wonder how many kids went missing that summer…and no one ever heard a word. Then there was “child abduction summer” and I bet there were shark bites we never heard of.

I bet kids went missing the day some nutjob took hostages in New Hampshire.

If there are 5 cases to choose from, and they pick the cute one white one, I look at it this way. You can call me racist if you want over it,and I don’t think I am….on to the statement-

Who is going to garner more sympathy? John Ramsey or someone who’s command of the English language is lacking? Its not about what is news, its about what is going to get you to turn back to that channel,or reload that website. Well-spoken family member goes missing, update at 10…or crackwhore may or may not be murdered,no one really knows,we just know she’s gone, story at 11.

  9. ells9824 says:

Morbid-I think I would feel differently if they took ANY picture, left it alone and still put unwilling angel on it. The fact that they give her wings, and morph her eyes into puppy eyes that makes her nose look like Alice the Goon and then give her tears on top of it-what the fuck is that about. Its a total parody of the kid that suffered the abuse-its heaping abuse on top of abuse, thats what it is,and it sucks.

  10. Morbid says:

Oh, no doubt. News is a business. They need viewers to make money and viewers are more apt to tune into a blonde-haired, blue-eyed missing girl than a black male, or mentally challenged white female, etc. It’s just the way it is. And even in the cases that are covered extensively, they are usually forgotten in no time and replaced by yet another face. Not being mean, but Rowan and Riley will be forgotten in short order and replaced with two new faces.

  11. ells9824 says:

Agreed, I think Riley will stick a little longer than Rowan for the basic fact that people can discount Rowan because of Colleen’s lifestyle. True, Kim’s lifestyle obviously sucks, but Riley had a dad who cared about her and grandparents who knew something was wrong long before the rest of the world.

When the focus shifts to Ohio, people will think “that could be me” and the story will stay viable a bit longer. Not too many people can put themselves in Colleen’s shoes(older woman/much younger man, poverty level, country folk, kids scattered, etc[no offense to anyone])

  12. ells9824 says:

I am reading an article about Starkweather(yes,I stopped mid-article to post this quote)and this stood out as very much on topic to what this thread has sort of morphed towards:

It was the heart of “Ozzie and Harriet” country, of well-behaved, crew-cut kids and, in today’s terms, family values.

“A few killings on the South Side of Chicago, and who notices?” Zimring said. “But as soon as you put them in a context where we’re not used to seeing them, you get a somewhat more indelible act.”

    so so true

Perhaps some of you may not know that there is a forum on Baby Graces website.

http://www.baby-grace.org The following is a post from Grandma Sheryl Sawyers, copied from the Baby Grace Site. Thought many of you would like to follow her request.

    My Angel Riley Ann

I came here today to read some of the posts in hopes that it would somehow fill the void I have in my heart. I am touched by how many lives my angel has touhed. She was the light of my life, my heart. She was my first grandchild and she was the girl I always wanted. (I had 4 brothers, no sisters, and two sons, no daughters.) She spent every moment that I was home with me, she slept with grandma and her favorite thing to do was to “go shop” :-) She loved to sing and dance, she knew every word to the song at the opening of the movie Cars, her favorite movie. I was going to enroll her in dance classes as soon as she was old enough. We used to sit on my bed and I would say to her, where is grandma’s pretty baby? And she would point at every wall in my room as there were pictures of her everywhere. I feel such a void in my life, and everytime I think of how she died I feel that I will go insane, so I try not to think about it. Her mother and stepfather are the worst kind of people. As a mother and her grandmother I can not imagine standing by while some monster beat my child, let alone to participate. I hope they both rot in he–. There are no words to explain how I feel about them. And then I come here and read the posts and am assured that despite all the monster in this world, there a hundreds and thousands of good, decent, wonderful people like yourselves. God Bless you all. I am including a link to a page where you may go and light a candle for Riley. http://www.gratefulness.org/candles/candles.cfm?l=eng&gi+riley from this page you can do a group search for group Riley. Thank you all again. Sheryl Sawyers

I just lit a candle - burning time is 48 hours - will you ?

my space http://www.myspace.com/babygrace1007 has lots of beautiful photos Tags

I tried the baby-grace.org but I am lost there I dont see that letter from sheryl :(

There is a video interview with sheryl by CNN
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18TdtdZA840

This also covers the story with sheryl and Robert
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pu2hQW1RCtk

Does anyone know if they released her body to her family to bring home to Ohio ?
I have not heard anything about a memorial or proper burial.

  15. Wonder says:

    I found these

Mentor sets out a Christmas tree and takes time to remember all the people the community lost over the year. - that was Dec 3 and said it could be several more weeks - How sad they are taking so long for them to have a proper burial.

http://www.baby-grace.org/node/101 - spagetti dinner Dec 15 ($15) if your unable to make it donations are being excepted.

  16. Gram Oreo says:

There is a post by Sheryl Sawyers on http://www.baby-grace.org.

She stated that Riley’s remains will be released on Jan 3 ( which happens to be Sheryl’s birthday.

Sheryl Sawyers posts quite frequently on that site, and monitors it daily.

  17. Wonder says:

She stated now that it won’t be her birthday - I posted the link to grandma sheryl message as to the reason on the link above (page1)

  18. periodictable47 says:

I’m haunted by how dreadful Riley’s last two months must have been, going from the protective world of her Ohio grandmother’s house to Texas and that brute of a man. You can tell from her photos with her father, Mr. Sawyers, that she was used to happy, playful interaction with him. I imagine her trying to play with Mr. Ziegler and the response that must have gotten.

I think the death penalty is overused in this country, but I am not in favor of making it entirely obsolete because of cases like this one. If Trenor and Ziegler get it and go through the traditional process of appeals and more appeals and getting Jesus, etc, before they finally get it, I won’t regret their passing.

And I stay puzzled about why people don’t use the information that’s so abundantly available out there to anyone with access to a computer. You can find out how to get and use birth control if you don’t want kids…where to get an abortion if an unfortunate accident is happened and you need to press CANCEL on a common female misfortune…how to place your child for adoption if you already have one and don’t want her…developmental milestones in child development, so you can know what you can reasonably expect of a child you’re raising (they don’t include consistently saying “sir” and “please” and “thank you” at age two)…sane and kind childrearing techniques…how to get legal help with a spouse who threatens your child. There are all sorts of useful things to do with a computer and an Internet connection other than playing Warcraft and hooking up with violent creeps!

  19. Morbid says:

    Hello, periodictable47.

I am waiting on the trial. I am real curious as to what happened that day. Royce’s lawyer has started earning his money lately by disputing what Kimberly has stated, but I am still curious as to who did what on the day she was killed.

  20. periodictable47 says:

I bet things get real convoluted once those two are on the stand. Both of those lawyers will earn their money before the last act of this drama. I bet those lawyers defending those two will leave court after adjournment every day feeling as if they are lightly covered with slime.

If such a dreadful thing had to happen, though, I’m glad it happened in Texas, where the odds are against Royce and Kim avoiding their comeuppance.

  21. Wonder says:

they both told their stories like I stated, he tried to save Trenor by saying it was all his doing.

#170 I think the sudden pregancy was intentional as it was a get you back issue cause Riley’s father had another girl pregnant. baby conceived appox Jan. Trenor lived with Rileys family until April or May. Trenor got married to online aquainance in June shortly after meeting in person. That would make her about 6 months preg. now - Sad that she gets to chose who adopts this child. She could be hoping for a mistrial and force this child into the foster child system. How sad for everyone involved she has to be pregnant. What a Looser !

  22. thepooh5 says:

Any updates as to who and did what?

Did I read #173 correctly - she gets to pick who adopts the child? Why does she get to pick anything? She has proven her “pickin skills” suck!!!

  23. Morbid says:

Here is some more information that got reported today. Nothing groundbreaking, but a lot about what investigators were looking for in the house and storage area.

  24. thepooh5 says:

They had Riley’s funeral and released pink balloons in her memory. Still saddens me so very much. :(

  25. Unamused Cat says:

They just announced that the death penalty is off the table in this case.

  26. Angel says:
They just announced that the death penalty is off the table in this case.

That sucks out loud! They both need to be exterminated.

  27. thepooh5 says:
They just announced that the death penalty is off the table in this case.

Why in the world, of all people and all states, did they decide NOT to persue the death penalty? For the love of Pete, damn damn and double damn — they left her in a box after all of the abuse and murder.

Why would they let him off on the death penalty thing and then give it to her? They probably won’t. Why is the death penalty not an option? WHY? WHY? WHY?

Still no real justice for Riley, no matter what. They are young enough to where their abusing, murdering asses will out live me. I’ve never killed a child - that just doesn’t seem fair. And, just think how many years Texans will have to keep their sorry asses up with their tax money. You know that makes the voters happy. Fire the DA’s ass. Hopefully, if the DP is not going to be an option, that general population will be, for both of those POS.

  28. Lizard says:

“Saying he was prepared for a backlash from those appalled by the brutality of the crime, [District Attorney] Sistrunk said he was abiding by a 2007 Texas Court of Criminal Appeals ruling that would make it nearly impossible to obtain a death penalty decision that would withstand appeal.

The ruling concerned a special question required by law that a jury must answer to arrive at a death penalty decision: will the accused be a future danger to society?

The appeals court ruled in the case of Kenisha Eronda Berry of Beaumont, convicted in the death of her infant son, Malachi, that the slaying of her child was insufficient to prove that she would be a future danger to society.

Sistrunk said that meant a jury would therefore be unable to find that Zeigler or Trenor would be a future danger to society, excluding the death penalty.”

  29. Angel says:

What a crock of shit! They are abusers. They will always be abusers. Therefore they will always be a danger to society. Unless you don’t think children qualify as members of society. What a fucked up system.

  30. thepooh5 says:
What a crock of shit! They are abusers. They will always be abusers. Therefore they will always be a danger to society. Unless you don’t think children qualify as members of society. What a fucked up system.

I second every word, Angel. Why are we worried about what they will do in the future? Look what they have already done. They have committed a crime so heinous that they already deserve the death penalty. Why do they get a “future”? Riley, sure as hell didn’t get a future.

I know, lets jail them and rehabilitate them, then when they kill someone else, we’ll determine they are a threat to society, at that point. But first, a second person needs to die to satisfy “the future danger” requirement - one tortured, murdered baby left in a plastic box and thrown in the bay, just isn’t enough.

    All together now, BULLSHIT!!!!!

  31. Mandella says:

I think we all have the tendency to wish that worthless fuckers like these would get the death penalty; however, I think maybe we’re being too hasty.

It costs a lot of money for a state to “off” someone legally. Plus, it’s done in a very humane and hygenic way.

I’d much rather they NOT get the death penalty, but get double life sentences. It’s more cost effective for the state (believe it or not) to feed them for life than it is to “exterminate” them. PLUS, (and this is the REAL bonus) they’ll be tortured, abused, and hopefully murdered for FREE by their new prison roomies.

Hell, even if they’re not murdered, I’d rather they spend a miserable lifetime being gang-raped, beaten, etc, etc than to just die so easily by injection or whatever state-approved method.

    Y’know?

  32. mpratt says:

It was one year ago today, that Riley was murdered. There will be a dedication to her today @ 6:00 PM in Gavleston.

    Riley…XOXOXO…

The sad part, a year later, there is still no justice for Riley or Rowan or Benjamin, or ……………………………………..

Its so sad, what a long list of “no justice” deaths to children. :(

  34. mm_classy says:
The sad part, a year later, there is still no justice for Riley or Rowan or Benjamin, or ……………………………………..

wow. I cant believe how one sentence just put me right into tears..

I just wanted to add Alijah to the list.. he’s still one that never leaves my thoughts.

They ALL deserve justice! But today I’ll send up a specail prayer for Riley.

  35. thepooh5 says:
I just wanted to add Alijah to the list.. he’s still one that never leaves my thoughts.

Yes, poor little Alijah, I couldn’t get his name to come to me, only the faces of that bitch that allowed her penis to leave with him even after he had stated “he needed to get away, because he was afraid he would hurt the child”. Thank you so much for putting his name up there. Why it wouldn’t come to me, I don’t know? I can remember the story, I guess I just hit a “flat spot” for a moment or something.

  36. mm_classy says:
Yes, poor little Alijah, I couldn’t get his name to come to me, …. Why it wouldn’t come to me, I don’t know?

Well Pooh, we just can not remember them ALL. Sadly, there are just way too many. And each one is just as painful.

  37. thepooh5 says:
Well Pooh, we just can not remember them ALL. Sadly, there are just way too many. And each one is just as painful.

What’s worse, I can remember the story and circumstance, but couldn’t get poor Alijah’s name to come. I am shit. He deserves to be remembered for the wonderful child he was - not the parents’ horrific actions. *pooh hangs head in shame*

  38. mm_classy says:

oooh, Now I’m crying and just want to give you the biggest hug (((Pooh)))). I read enough on here to know how deeply you care about each one of these cases!

I would have forgotten to mention Rowan, for some reason. But that one was just as horrific. They all are.

  39. Not So Speechless says:

    Rest In peace Riley.
    I am crying as well.
All of these beautiful children- gone. Tragic.

  40. thepooh5 says:

Thanks classy - I truly appreciate it. And ((hugs)) right back at ya - I think we could all use a good hug right now. I really do care - ask my husband. He gets so frustrated with me and the stories I read on here. But, this stuff has to be addressed, children have to found and saved and protected. I swear, if he says to me one more time, “you don’t even know these people, why are you so tore up?” - I’m gonna pop him right in the chops for even having to ask.

Now, don’t get me wrong, he cares, he thinks this shit is wrong and he thinks I’m a dingbat for worrying so intensely over it, as if I do have a personal interest. I understand that I don’t, but damn it hurts so bad. I really wake up in the night worrying about the kids I have read about on here. I pray for them. I cry for them. I am bat shit crazy, I guess.

  41. mm_classy says:

I go through the same thing with my husband. He cares, but doesn’t get my extreme sense of dispare when I read these stories that just rips me up.

I have pics of Alijah saved in our computer, and he’s asked me before, why dont you just delete those things.. After giving him my, “Are you fucking crazy” look.. I tell him, seriously hun, his own parents “deleted” his sweet little life! Is it really too much that some one cares enough to keep his pictures and remembers that his life meant something??

Seems every day I’m either in a rage, or crying over the things I read on here.. I will never compehend how people can hurt children, much less their own child!

  42. thepooh5 says:
