Agreed. There are so many cases that are sad,but for some reason Rowan grabbed a lot of hearts. I know she has mine. When the dust settles a little bit,every one gets a little self righteous, pointing out the reasons this wouldn’t happen to THEM or THEIR kids. I am guilty of it myself. No one really knows though. Anyone of us could have a friend or neighbor decide to do something like this-and no matter what our lifestyle, we would have the same people saying the same things about us.
Truth sucks,but it doesn’t make it any less true.
About 15 years ago in StL we had 2 girls raped and murdered with in days. They have not yet found Angie Houseman’s killer, but they did find Cassidy Senters. Cassidy went missing with a Personal Alarm,that was going off in a side yard when they found it. Short of locking her up,there wasn’t much more her mother could do. And it was a neighbor’s uncle that raped and killed her.
Regardless of what anyone thinks of Colleen’s choices, she still lost a little girl. If all of us feel the way we do,can you imagine how she must feel being the one that actually put the chain of events in place?

I know she is your mom and that you love her and for that reason I will say nothing bad about her. She is the one who has to live with the bad choices that she has made. Lets hope this is a turning point in all of your lives and that justice will be swift for your little sister.
I live right down the road from you in Missouri, well kind of. I have seen your mom at the Walmart before all this happened. So that is why this has hit me and my family hard, we really do feel bad for you and your family.

Some of you need to understand that while we may not be the most sympathetic site on the web, but when we actually have a family member actively posting info, and how they feel about what is going on, is there really a need to keep repeating something you have already stated or has been stated? Some of you feel that Colleen is a piece of shit. Great. It’s been stated to death. Janice, her daughter, has read it (repeatedly) and has still stayed in here, answering questions regardless.
Personally, I hate she is leaving. If she does, I will continue to keep in contact with her via other means. But people, come on. There is no need to continually kick someone in the teeth. Especially not when they are just as upset as the rest of you.
So in the future, if a family member of a story decides to post, and is contributing, please double-check what you are about to comment. Is it helpful? Does it provide any new info? A new avenue of discussion? If not, save it. I do not want to get to the point other sites have gotten to, a point in which the admin APPROVES EVERY FUCKING POST before it gets broadcast.

I will not take anything back that I posted - but if you choose to participate again, as many of us have asked you to do - I will be mindful of your presence and limit my comments to the discussion and not bashing Colleen. And, if Colleen had done things to help Rowan and I was wrong I will be the first to apologize to you and her.

Rosie, I knew that would happen with Frank’s website. I know Julienia told him what we were saying. I personally, toyed with the idea of posting a nasty comment on his page saying something like “Where is Michael in all these pictures???”. But I didnt, oh well, too late now. BTW, I am going to try to figure out how to link my myspace page to my screenname on here like some other folks have, so you guys can contact me anytime.

We have been talking more of how to prevent these types of things.I also think that he should be able to voice his or hers own opinion.Janice should come back on the boards,and not worry about what some think.There are some people who post in here that I dont even bother reading.Most of you guys and gals are good people.Deaths post didnt bother me.

We all want to think that this would never happen to my family so we tear down everyone involved to protect ourselves from the sad truth that this happens to every kind of family everywhere. We want to pick it apart to show ourselves that we would never do this or that, we would never be in this position. It’s a self defence mechanism, at least for me. I think that if I can find differences between me and your mother then I can say, oh! This isn’t me and this can’t happen to my kids. It’s a dillusion, it’s a way to make me feel safer when it comes to the sad fact that evil is out there and it could be next door or even closer.

And although I agree, Hunch, that we should all be able to voice our opinions, I think that every situation is different and I personally, would rather read posts from Janice telling us more about the family and case, than I would more posts bashing Colleen.
Also, another thing I noticed, just my opinion, is at this point we all dont have much else to talk about. Nothing new has come about, and yet I still have Rowan and this case on my mind, and I like being connected to others who are also interested in the subject. Hope something new happens so that we have something to post about!

I am just speaking specifically about scenarios in which we have a member that may be able to provide insight and info on a case faster and more accurate than the press, it may be a good idea to NOT piss them off. Unless they deserve it, that is.

Nov 29, 2007 at 1:25 pm -I’ve noticed on several posts where people say they hope these guys get it in prison, can anyone elaborate, maybe someone who has been in prison, as to how these guys ARE treated in prison? You don’t have to be too graphic, just curious. I know Jeffrey Dalmer was murdered in prison but haven’t heard of too many others being killed. Anyone have any experience in this department?

Child molesters apparently get special treatment in prison, usually anal rape and so on, up to murder. Haven’t been, but i think constant sexual abuse is more common than murder.

Nov 29, 2007 at 1:45 pm -I am sure that these guys will probably get the death penalty.There is a chance they would get life in prison without parole.If that happened they would probably be put in PC (Protective Custody).That is an area of the prison where they are in single cells and food is brought to them.This area of the prison is for homo sexuals and rapists and police officers who broke the law.Anyone that is in need of protection.I am not sure if they let them mingle with one another in a day room.I am pretty sure they stay secluded from one another.
To me this punishment is not enough for these two.As long as the district atty. has done his job correctly,we should see death sentences for them both.I had heard that Collene wanted them to get life in prison.Please Janice talk her out of that.I wouldnt want the killers of my daughter to be alive and fantasise what they did to her, for the rest of their lives.These guys need to straight to hell,the faster ther better.

Nov 29, 2007 at 2:33 pm -according to the newspaper it just tells about the court getting a public defender for Spears and not one for Collings yet. It said there was a pre-trial conference before Judge John LePage in Mac County Monday. I assume this was over the DWI. No other information going around about it. Things are very quiet all of a sudden so I don’t exactly know what that means. I know they are still doing some investigations in to other people. Not sure if they are still investigating Nathan Mahurin or not. He is the one David was out drinking with when Chris snagged Rowan. I havent seen Clint Clark in town lately. He is the cop Chris confessed to. I have heard that this hit him so hard he has taken some time off. That unfortunately is the main source of information locally, so no new news in the coffee shops. I imagine things might coast a bit til after the first of the year.

I have nothing to say about the lice thing. My daughter got lice about 2 years ago and gave it to everyone in the house, but me. Lice don’t like people who smoke. We treated all the beds and put everything in bags. My wife treated herself and we treated all the kid. A week later she had it again and this went on for some time, to the point that my little girl did not want to go to school because she was getting it from someone on the bus. Here is what we did to get rid of it, smoking was not the only reason I was not getting it when everyone else in the house was. I put hair gel in almost everyday and the lice smother to death. So that is what he did with her and the other kids we got them some styling moose and had them put it in their hair everyday. That was the end of the lice. I don’t know what it is about southwest Missouri, but every kid I know around here has had it at least a couple of times.

Just a question-Morbid, did you decide if the information regarding Rowan’s body that you alluded to was able to be posted. This is not idle curiosity-I think that if the whole story is told and stands in the broad light of day, people who may previously had thoughts regarding Rowan’s care (or perhaps another neglected child) will have a better frame of reference about calling someone and making sure that they err on the side of the child being safe. Am I making sense??

“She’s just a little girl”…… I saw that, felt it, heard it in the far corners of my heart, it resounds there. And all the anger of how this came to be, the anger for the disregard I see everywhere for the preciousness of children and their life is something I think that helped draw me here, something I don’t quite know how to deal with myself, and how then, can Colleen, or anyone else who knew and loved Rowan, or who has been touched by her life and tragic death at the hand of the one she called ‘Daddy’?
Remember the old saying…
You never know what you have until it’s gone.
She greeted her mother in the driveway.
She hugged and kissed and loved her daily.
She knew the love of Jesus.
Colleen did do Something right…..and some things not so right. May others learn…May we all learn, to do what we can.
I never knew you Rowan, but I do know for whatever reason your life has touched mine.
Janice thank you for coming here, I admire your courage. I would hope that you would change your mind and stay around and if you do not, I can understand that too. My deepest condolences to you and your family.
