I missed this story, but thought it would be interesting once all the details are uncovered.
MERCED - What is known is that Rosa Alicia Avina, 27, was abducted, bound at the hands and feet, and had a bag placed over her head. She was then, in the early morning hours of Oct 25th, she was placed in an abandoned boat located near a burn pile. It was at this point her abductor (s) doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire. Hours later, RosaRosa reviews
walked half a mile with second- and third-degree burns over 95 percent of her body and collapsed at a farm where she was discovered by workers. Her burns were so severe, that deputies could not tell what gender she was. Rosa was flown to the burn unit at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose and managed to share some details of the crime with investigators. She died on Monday from her injuries.
Rosa was on parole at the time the crime occurred, accord- ing to sheriff's spokesman Paul Barile. She was arrested in 2000 on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, convicted in 2002 and sentenced to two years in prison, Barile said. She was released on parole but was sent back to prison for parole violations for narcotics possession in recent years, he said. She may have been kidnapped during a home invasion or robbery in Merced or Stanislaus counties, possibly in the Turlock area and their Major Crimes Unit has served warrants and searched residences in Turlock, Delhi and Livingston.
