After kicking his girlfriend’s ass, Jeffrey Carter Albrecht then went next door to the neighbors house at around 4 a.m. and tried kicking in their door. The neighbor yelled through the door for Albrecht to leave and then fired his handgun through the door. Albrecht was shot in the head and died on the scene. Jefferey had been a member of Edie Brickell & New Bohemians since 1999. Edie Brickell & New Bohemians will eventually be looking for a new keyboard player if anyone is interested.

Update: Thanks to the wonderful “Jim”, who pointed out that the band would not be looking for a new keyboard player the day after the death of Jeffrey, the article has now been changed to reflect that.

Thanks, J-I-M!

You say “Edie Brickell and New Bohemians are now looking for a new keyboard player if anybody is interested”. You’re full of it. What, is this your attempt at dark humor? The band is mourning the loss of a good friend and bandmate. Stop being a jerk and stick with the facts.

Hey a**hole, New Bohemians wouldn’t be looking for a new keyboard played the day after their friend/keyboardist was murdered. How old are you? I’m guessing 14?

Sorry, Jim. I guess the article should have read:

Edie Brickell & New Bohemians will eventually be looking for a new keyboard player if anyone is interested. Thanks for pointing that out.

I’m just glad he took the time to put the hyphens between the letters of ASSHOLE. Had he not done that, I may have inadvertently read it as “car wash” or “strong coffee”.

Sorry about the expletive. I didn’t know this was a real news site. Carter “kicked his girlfriend’s ass” while he was in a dream-like blackout due to drinking alcohol and taking a prescription drug for cigarette cessation called ‘Chantix’. Other users of this prescription drug have also had violent outbursts. According to everybody who knew him this was totally out of character of this kind and non-violent, talented musician.

New Bohemians could continue without a keyboard player as they did from 1985 to 1999 and they would still all be original members. Carter joined in ‘99. The band didn’t use a keyboard player in their concerts and rarely used keyboards on their studio recordings. Carter’s death will effect many bands as he was a member of Edie Brickell’s solo band AND New Bohemians and his main band, Sorta. The world lost a great musician.

Thanks for the info J-I-M. No worries on the expletive, we get a good bit of hate mail (which I still don’t understand…do people not go to Fark.com?

But anyway, from all accounts the guy seemed to be a nice guy and a very talented musician. His best friend posted an article about him that was pretty cool (even got a dig on him for having Snakes on a Plane being the last movie he ever saw).

But maybe this will serve as a lesson to other people taking Chantix or any type of prescription drugs…lay off the alcohol. They tell you not to mix them for a reason.

Wow. Impressive that the drug can create such a crazy side effect when
    mixed with alcohol, eh?

The comments, were entertaining as well. I snickered.

They also tell women not to drink while pregnant, but look what happened to me.

I guffawed when I read the word “snickered”

Well, you know… Anything is possible. I met this band. Really nice people. It’s tragic this happened. Who really knows what happens and what’s going through one’s mind when these things go down. I just wish the best to all involved and otherwise. You know, it’s sound cliche, but LIFE IS REALLY very short… I’ve noticed, it’s always the young, spoiled kids that write the harshest stuff — the ones that really need their ass kicked! These guys make great music and still jam – It will never be the same with Edie marrying Paul Simon (a major mystery to me) but then, ‘Stranger things have Happened’ -

I have been taking Chantix for like a month now….no anger….rage….I do have some pretty cool dreams, but that is pretty much the only side effect that I have noticed.  I am tired of hearing people saying "oh no! you shouldn't take that Chantix, it makes people go crazy…." Personally, I believe that if there really are people who have gone "crazy" while taking this drug, they probably had some other kind of mental illness or disease before they went psycho (or drugs or whatever)…. but hey that's just me.  Besides, it clearly states, like with most other prescription drugs, "Do not drink alcohol while using Chantix"
I have talked to MANY different Chantix users all who say that they don't have any kind of "Crazy" side effects….in fact, they/we are all very happy that we have been prescribed this drug….hey at least we aren't killing ourselves slowly every couple of hours.

And I’ve had shot his ass, too, if he’d been kicking in my door. Really. Geez. Beat up your girl and think you’re a badass and can take on the neighborhood at four fucken ayem. Neighbor had good aim.
