Boy Dies in Microwave During Game of Hide and Seek

Plattsmouth, Neb – Here’s a nasty one. James Cook, 6, was playing hide-and-seek with his 9-year-old sister at his families home in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. James decided to hide in an older model microwave that the family had left outside to be taken to the dump with some other items. The microwave was on it’s back; door up. The older, Sharp brand microwave is 15 inches wide by 10 inches high by 12 inches deep. Once the door shut, he was unable to open it.

After about an hour of looking for her older brother in the 91 degree weather, his sister alerted the family that she could not locate him. An hour after that, the family finally found James who had already suffocated to death.

So, do any of you remember a time you played hide-and-go-seek and you found the perfect spot? A spot that no one would ever find you in?

I dunno, baboonhead, I would venture to guess that it was simply a typo. Also, this matters how?

Yea I know I am still perplexed on how he was even able to shut the door.  I know his is a old thread but if you were in a microwave (mine would have to be the size of a piano case )  how would you shut the door.  Its not like they have internal handles.  I think there is more to this than what is being told.  It is impossible to shut the microwave door from inside it.

I’m trying to be fairly optimistic today (I prefer realism) so what I hope happened was since the microwave was facing up with the door in the air that gravity closed the microwave door. My aunt had an old microwave for a long time and that thing was heavy, the door and all so maybe the weight of the door mixed with a little wind closed it.

I really hope that there isn’t someone running free who closed the door on this little sweetie.

I suspect foul play. How was the boy able to close the microwave on his own? Do they make handles on the insides for little kids to hid in them?
