Violent crime in Rome’s Termini Station is rare, so the violent death of a young commuter, 22-year-old student nurse Vanessa Russo, came as a shock to residents.
After Mrs Russo had refused to give over her bag to two women, one of the women stabbed Vanessa in the eye with the tip of an umbrella, piercing her acerebral artery and ultimately killing her. This was done in full view of commuters and the two women, both dressed in white pants and jackets, were seen on surveillance cameras leaving the Termini Station. They were then tracked down to a residence in nearby Tolentino.
