Guitar Hero 2 Update is Bricking 360’s

ImageShack In case you missed earlier Guitar HeroGuitar Hero reviewsGuitar Hero reviews 2 news, there was a whammy bar problem on two batches of guitars. These two sets of models were not relaying whammy bar input to the hit game for the 360. Some intrepid hackers figured out how to resolve this problem by taking your axe apart, adjusting a mount, and tightening a few screws. RedOctane, however has recently released a patch for this problem which supposedly fixes the whammy bar, but… it is hard to tell if it works or not… because it bricks your 360.

Okay, obviously not all 360’s, but take a look at Microsoft’s official forums at XBox.com. The “Red Ring of Death” has visited more than a few of the members. There is some speculation that the USB port is to blame, but it is nothing but speculation at this point.

Larger issue: One of these guys is waiting on his FOURTH 360 (various causes, not all related to Guitar Hero). I have seen more than a few people who have gone through multiple units. I’ve even seen a video on YoutubeYouTubeYouTube by some guys who share an apartment, and had all three of their units blinking the red lights of death at the same time. Are these problems serious? Or just what you expect with 10 million units out there. Could it be user error, like improper ventilation, or dirty power?

In related news, you will notice that many of these posters are also complaining about the “Horse Armor track downloads”.
