Oh, boy. The makers of gems such as Daggerfall, Morrowind, and Oblivion now own the Intellectual Property rights of Fallout. Interplay has sold the Fallout IP to Bethesda.
Under the SECA filing:
“the Company sold all of its rights to the IP to Bethesda for a total amount of $5,750,000.00 payable to the Company, subject to various conditions, in three cash installments. The first installment of $2,000,000.00 was paid following closing when $200,000.00 was paid to the Company and $1,800,000.00″
Fallout 3 is well underway, and a Fallout MMO is slated for production. If the MMO gets made, Interplay will also give Bethesda 12% of the revenue.
Fallout 1 and 2 are both in my top 5 RPG games of all time list. I’m trying not to get my hopes up too high, but this is Bethesda, and this is Fallout.
