Husband Wanted in Fire AttackKINSTON, N.C. — Juanita Natasha Kinsey, 37, was burned over 40 percent of her body after her husband, Timothy Kinsey, 43, doused her with gasoline and set her on fire.

Juanita, who worked helping domestic abuse victims, was in critical condition Monday with second- and third-degree burns in Jaycee Burn Center at University of North Carolina Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Juanita Kinsey’s 14-year-old son, Timarcus Carraway, was also burned when gasoline splashed on him and when he used a coat to try to put out the flames burning his mother.

Police were trying to find Timothy Kinsey, 43, whom they believed was in Lenoir or Jones County and has served time in state prison for receiving stolen property and for drug possession, according to state records.

Timothy Kinsey,45, was arrested towards the end of April 2007 and he pleaded guilty February 27, 2008 and sentenced to 28 to 35 years in prison.

“My momma’s on fire! My daddy set her on fire!”

Anguish and panic clearly audible, Timarcus Carraway’s voice filled the Lenoir County Superior Court on Thursday. Assistant District Attorney Imelda Pate play Carraway’s April 7, 2007, 911 call, telling dispatch his mother, Juanita Kinsey, had been doused in gasoline and set on fire by his father, Timothy Kinsey.

Three other charges, one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury, one count of attempted first degree murder and one count of arson, were dropped in exchange for the plea.

Junaita Kinsey spent from April 7, 2007 to July 3 in the hospital, going back since then for therapy, etc.

Jones (the Judge) delivered a few remarks before sentencing Timothy Kinsey.

“This was indeed a horrific event,” he said. “I think it would almost be more humane to use a gun than to use gasoline and set her on fire.

    “There’s no justification.”

Jones sentenced Timothy Kinsey to 116 to 149 months in prison for the count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill/inflict serious injury and 220 to 273 months for the county of attempted first degree murder.

That means Timothy Kinsey will be 68 to 79 years old if he’s ever released.

Juanitas son, Timarcus Carraway is a hero to his Mom and in my eyes! Sad, that he had to witness that, but him being there probably saved her life!

How awful for a child to see his own father do this to his mother. And how sad/ironic that her line of working is/was helping domestic abuse victims.
